ACTIVITY REPORT FOR FALDEP

JUNE TO SEPTEMBER 2012

Introduction

Planned activities did not take place on the dates planned because funds were not made available on time. However project execution began 01 month after the arrival of funds from IDH= with a planning meeting between the Instructors and the FALDEP field staff. It is worth noting that because activities started in the June it was also difficult to have a 100% achievement because of the heavy rains and bad roads leading to some of these communities. This will account for the inability to organize the exchange visit in August and monthly field visit by the field staff as seen in the action plan. That not withstanding a number of functional trainings was carried out in all the centres with the supervision of the project coordinator from the head office within the period.Others trainings not achieved during this period because of the rains would take place effectively in November when the rains would have reduced.

REPORT OF FUNCTIONAL TRAINNINGS FOR THE FALDEP CENTERS.

The training took place in three different centers despite the fact that there are four centers functioning. This is because two centers were merged to train in one center but all their materials provided. These centers where trained on mushroom, home made cube and powder soap, Glycerin. The items train on where different with the centers following their needs and request, but mushroom, cube and powder soap were common for all. Find below a brief explanation on the methods used for the trainings

Mushroom Cultivation

Materials.

Substrate (dried corn stalk)

Plastic bags

White wash paint. (As insecticide to kill all unwanted fungi that is not needed).

Banko plus Fungicide: Still to kill fungi.

Urea: (Fertilizer) to sustain the substrate to produce for long time

Mushroom seed.

Method

Put 10 liters of waterin a pot on the fire,

Allow to bubble

Put 2-ten litters buckets of broken corn stalk in the pot

Introduce ingredientas follows

NB Reduce the heat of the white wash by introducing water droplet into it, to make it become powder since measurement is only in powder form and preserve in a well confined container.

In 10litters of water, put 2-level tomato cup white wash

2 teaspoon Urea

1 teaspoon of Banko plus

After boiling the substrate spread it on a well disinfected area to let it cool

When the substrate is cool to body temperature, start fillingplastic bags with the cooled corn stalk. After putting in a quantity then place the seedsin the bagsat the corners. Fill the 1st layer with ten hands full with substrate, and then the 2ndlayer with eight hands and place more seeds in any order this time (continue to the 3rd layer depending on the quality of the substrate). Tie the plastic, introduce 2 holes on each bag and place in a dark room. After 16th days remove and add 6 more holes on each bag and hang out side where there is a bit of lighting and watered it every week. Water immediately or one day after harvest.

NB: Do not water it when the mushroom has begun sprouting.

Note that one bottle will give 3-plastic bags.
