Action for Blind People
Birmingham

RG announced he has new Role within Action as knowledge manager so we may have a new member from Action.

Generally positive,
MB: Idea of having a symposia connected with VISION 2013. The day before the main conference this is very definitely in the maybe stage but has been mooted.
RG: Make future conferences into a Learning environment or possibly have learning symposia outside of the main conference
Future Promotion of conference in Community Care, Housing LIN etc

4) Purpose of the group and additional committee members
MB: Welcome to our new members Jo and Simon
JL: Has some contacts whom would be interested in being in the group;
General approval of this idea
JL: RNIB working with Orchard and constructing baselines, care-plans etc. With Thomas Bailey trust funding
JW: Is there the possibility of our group having a supporting stance on housing issues (who with how would it work?).
FW: Possibly run some Compliance workshops.
RG: on a local level?
MB: Put together some sort of VISION 2020UK HASSIG group presentation which any member of the group could give at events
General: Group to put together a good practice guide together. Someone needs to lead on this once we have the information. Need to include other sensory loss in the presentation.
RG: Do we need to involve Visibly Better England (Rebcecca Sheehy).
ACTION: RG to talk to Rebecca about this
JW: No standard countrywide lots of local schemes
ACTION Committee: to produce agreed responses to documentation sent via VISION 2020UK

ACTION RG: to look out for and contact Housing LIN reps countrywide
5) CQC (FW’s new role)
FW: I Now one of the bank of Clinical and professional advisors on the CQC and can be called upon to give advice on practice and advising on specialism VI, learning disabilities and education. Could be called upon to assist inspections particularly themed inspections and investigations where necessary.
Inspections can now take place as often as the CQC sees fit and unannounced
6) UK Vision Strategy refresh group response.
ACTION MB: Will collate responses from the committee and put them all together with the approval of the committee and send in
J: Local professional networks for eye care need to be concentrated on.
5) AOB
Frank to produce a couple of paragraphs re specialist FE and the problems with people being assessed out of provision.
