SIGN2SING
The pupils of Nateby Primary School did us proud yet again yesterday when they signed along to this year’s Sign2sing song to help raise money for Signhealth. I’m sure you will agree that we really do have some very talented children and what a fabulous skill it is to learn sign language. Thank you to Mrs Ryan and the sign language club for leading the way but well done to everyone, showing the parents just how clever you are. A brilliant £66.00 was raised for Signhealth, which will be used to help support deaf people in the community.
PHONICS WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS
Thank you to the parents of Class 1 who came along to the phonics workshops that I presented yesterday. I hope you found the session informative and helpful.
SCHOOL NURSE
The school nurse visited Class 1 on Monday to discuss keeping healthy and the importance of keeping clean. The children learnt how to wash their hands correctly and talked about certain times of the day when it is especially important to wash their hands. Take a look at the photos on Class 1 page of the school website.
FOOD HYGIENE TRAINING
You may or may not be aware that the pupils from Class 3 serve food from the salad bar to the rest of the children at lunchtimes. Today, the children received their official training in food hygiene and how to serve food from the salad bar in a hygienic way by Mrs Tyson who works for Lancashire Catering Services.
NEW ASSESSMENT ‘LIFE AFTER LEVELS’ EVENING – 9th MARCH 6pm
Under the new changes from the DfE, the system of ‘levels’ previously used to report children’s progress has been removed. The new style of assessment is based on children working within their own year group expectations. Lancashire has developed their own Key Learning Indicators of Performance (KLIPs) to fit alongside the new curriculum. We realise that this is quite a lot to take in after being used to working with levels for such a long time. Therefore, we are going to hold an assessment evening where we will explain this new style of assessment in much greater detail. This assessment evening is particularly aimed at parents of children in Y1 – Y6. Reception children continue to be assessed against the Early Learning Goals as in previous years, but please feel free to come along if you wish to get a head start on the new style of assessment in KS1 & KS2.
PARENTS EVENING
Parents Evening is to be held on Wednesday 16th March where class teachers will be available to discuss the progress of your child/children. A separate letter requesting appointment times will be sent out when we return after the half-term holiday.
PEER2PEER DAY
We are really looking forward to our Peer2Peer day on Wednesday. The children will split up into their house teams and then take part in a carousel of activities based on Chinese New Year. We are delighted to have Mrs Dawson return to Nateby school to talk to the children about Chinese traditions and customs and she will be doing some Chinese cooking with each group. Children will also take part in craft activities and create a Chinese dance with the help of Blue Moose dance company. Parents are invited to come into school at 2.45pm when we will present a short assembly on what we have found out about Chinese New Year during the day and then the whole school will perform the dance that they have learnt. We hope to see as many parents as possible.
YOUNG VOICES CONCERT
If your child is taking part in the Young Voices concert, please see separate letter regarding information for the day. Tickets for the event have arrived in school and Mrs Houghton will be personally handing these out to parents. Please keep them in a safe place!
A number of parents have discussed the possibility of hiring a coach for parents if you are interested please speak to Miss Debbie Simpson or Mrs Annette Cuff.
PURPLE MASH
Purple Mash is an award-winning website for nursery and primary school children. It enables children to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. We use it in school as part of our ICT curriculum, and to support learning in other curriculum areas. Your child has brought home a ‘login’ card so that they can access Purple Mash from home as well as in school so that they can continue their learning and complete homework tasks. You might like to check out the activities related to Chinese New Year in preparation for our Peer2Peer day next week. You will find this on the ‘home’ page or by clicking on the ‘topics’ tab. Another new feature is the ‘2Simple Table Toons’. This is a fun way to help children learn their timestables. You may or not be aware that by the end of Year 4, children should know all the timestable facts up to 12x12!!
NATEBY PRIMARY SCHOOL ROSE QUEEN
If any other children would like to be in Hannah Procter’s retinue this year, then please contact Karen (her Mum) on the following numbers 01253 790262 or 07510 529 111 as soon as possible.
