Residential ‘Information Evening’ for Year 6 Parents

Dear Year 6 Parents/Carers,

I would like to invite you to an information evening, in regards to the upcoming Year 6 residential visit to, ‘Stubbers Adventure Centre’. The meeting will be held in the school hall from 6.00pm promptly on, Wednesday 14th June 2017.

It is highly recommended for your child to accompany you to this meeting, not only because the visit directly impacts on them – but the underlying outcome of this visit is to establish/promote lifelong independence skills within your child.

At the end of the meeting we will of course have question time, where we can discuss areas of uncertainty, apprehension etc. that you or your child may still have leading towards the wonderful residential experience.

Mrs Petchey (one of the school’s Educational Visit Coordinators) and Mrs Wilson (Visit Leader) have already completed a pre-visit inspection – and both have come back with rave reviews of the accommodation facilities. The school has not stayed in the ‘Maple Lodge’ accommodation before.

To give you as much time as possible, and not to wait for the information evening, can I confirm to you that you will need to make transport arrangements for your child to attend and be collected from the residential address.

We have not organised a coach this year for two main reasons:

  • ‘Stubbers’ is close enough for parents to do drop off and pick up;
  • It has kept the price of the visit down to a reasonable amount.

We have always done this transportation system in previous years visiting Stubbers. However, we understand that some of you will struggle to take time off work/provide transportation for your own child, which is why I am giving you this time to start planning before our meeting.

At the meeting, we will be asking you for your transport details (who is dropping off and collecting etc.). We would also like to know who has a spare seat to possibly take an additional child whose parents/carers have not been able to make arrangements. Therefore at the meeting, it would be a good idea to let us know if you have been unsuccessful in making transport arrangements.

For those who are looking at transporting your children, here are some key times to the itinerary that would be useful for you to have in advance:

Monday 3rd July 2017

  • 9.30am: All children to arrive at school (coffee and tea will be provided for transporting parents/carers to relax in the hall).
  • 9.45am: All medication to be passed to the designated staff First Aider (TBC) with any additional instructions.
  • 10.30am: After a short briefing and final preparations, depart school for ‘Stubbers Activity Centre, Ockendon Rd, Upminster RM14 2TY
  • 11.30am approx.: Arrive at ‘Stubbers’, (Parents to leave at this point and children to go to accommodation with supervising staff – followed by a lunch provided by ‘Stubbers’.

Friday 7th July 2017

  • 12.00pm approx: Children to have last lunch at Stubbers
  • 1.30pm: Parents/Carers to collect children from Stubbers

Additionally, attached to this letter is a ‘kit list’. We are giving this to you as soon as possible, to allow enough time for you to sort/purchase anything that may be needed.

A hard copy of this letter and kit list will be sent home on the 5th June (first day back). I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the information evening.

Sincerely,

Dale Bateman
(Acting Headteacher)
