TRANSIENT REQUEST Guidelines
- Accreditation: Courses must be accredited through an accrediting body that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Higher Education; an international Institution must be recognized by the Ministry of Education where the institution is located.
- Non- transferrable: Remedial, developmental, diploma, certificate, and graduate courses will not transfer as undergraduate courses.
- Transferrable courses: The course must be similar in content and must be able to fulfill at least 2/3 of the required credits for a given course at Liberty University.
- Religion courses: Bible, Theology, Philosophy (except PHIL 201) courses if not taken from a Christian institution will be awarded elective credit only.
- Nursing, Engineering, Computer and Education courses will be awarded elective credit only. A student may submit a Course Substitution Request Form - Undergraduate Resident to seek approval for a course substitution.
- Calendar System: If the institution is not based on a semester calendar system, the credits will be converted. Example: If the transfer institution is operating on a quarter calendar system, the quarter credits will be converted to semester credits by multiplying them by 2/3.
- Grade: Courses with ‘P’ or ‘S’ grades will not transfer; courses with a grade of ‘C’ or higher may transfer.
- Undergraduate Repeat Policy: the Undergraduate Repeat Policy (this applies to a student who wishes to retake a course to increase his/her GPA) will only be applied for courses taken at Liberty University. For more details please check Academic Course Catalogs at .
- Approval to take courses at another institution does not guarantee fulfillment of the graduation requirements. Students are advised to:1) Review the graduation requirements on their Degree Completion Plan.2) Confer with their Professional Advisor at CASAS before taking courses through another institution.
- Consortium Agreement–The Registrar’s Office will review to determine if the requested course may be applied to the major/minor the student declared on the request form. A decision marked as ‘approved –DCP’means Financial Aid will determine the course eligibility for a Consortium Agreement. If the decision simply says ‘approved,’ this means that the course is transferrable but it is not needed to fulfill a Degree Completion Plan requirement.
