Technology Assistant

A) General Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the Technology Assistant to administer the school phone and voice-mail systems, to maintain, update, troubleshoot and repair all computers, printers and technology equipment, to work with students and teachers on projects, presentations and technical assistance needs, to install new hardware and software, to assist with the duties of the audio-visual department including setting up auditorium events and filming in TV Studio along with the AV Technician, to operate the Media Distribution System, and to assist with network administration and technology duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.

B) Specific Duties

  1. Administer the school phone system and voice-mail system. Add/delete accounts, teach new employees in setting up voice-mail boxes, maintain database of phone numbers as location assignments, assist switchboard operator and all staff in operations of systems, interact with outside support firm and telephone company in troubleshooting and repairs.
  2. Perform duties of Audio-Visual Technician during times when he is working night shift and unavailable; setup Auditorium events and film in TV Studio as needed.
  3. Operate Media Distribution System along with Audio-Visual Technician
  4. Assist Director with Network Administration; e.g. maintain and update user login and password database for students, directory security and access, computer domain assignments, server backups
  5. Troubleshoot computers, printers, technology equipment and network related issues
  6. Install and update software and hardware
  7. Repair and maintain equipment
  8. Assist students and teachers with projects, presentations, digital media files and video editing, MIDI lab, and technical assistance needs
  9. Maintain and upkeep computer labs, office and classroom computers and technology equipment
  10. Update anti-virus software and security software to keep current
  11. Assist teachers and students with webpages and online applications (e.g. threaded communications - Iconboard, gradebook and calendar software, webpage tools)
  12. Oversee student file directories and report and repair violations; e.g. hacking, illegal software and copywritten materials, inappropriate materials on servers and client systems
  13. Maintain current network images of client systems for labs, classrooms and networked computers; perform network imaging functions to update and repair systems
  14. Perform duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Technology

C) Qualifications

  1. Possess strong knowledge of computers, technology and networks
  2. Possess knowledge of digital PBX phone and voice-mail systems and telecommunications wiring
  3. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  4. Experience with Windows 95/98/2000/XP, Office Suite, productivity and educational software; WebPage design and online software applications, antivirus and security software; Internet and Email, and Macintosh OS.
  5. Knowledge of NT and 2000 Microsoft Server OS and Ethernet networking.
  6. Ability to work independently, stay on task, multi-task, and take responsibility to complete assigned projects and duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  7. Willingness to stay current with ever-changing technology hardware and software.
