_____Faculty can obtain the assistance of technicians skilled in authoring of hypermedia learning materials at little or no cost.

18. At least one major university is experimenting with the replacement of hard copy texts with a LAN

server in virtually all core courses in business administration. Some of the learning materials on

the Lan consist of texts that are also available (but not required) in hard copy and portable

CD-ROMs. Learning material is of a hypertext and hypermedia nature that cannot be obtained in

hard copy. The materials are designed for possible use in “paperless” courses where students

do assignments and take examinations on the computer network. Students pay a fee each term

that is considerably less than what the hard copy textbooks alone currently cost for such

courses.

Assuming that the quality of hypertext and hypermedia material on the LAN is of outstanding

quality that impresses instructors in selected courses, would you be willing to accept technology

investments (by publishers) in your institution in order to use a LAN in place of hard copy

textbooks?

_____Yes

_____No

Comments:

19. Whereas distance education generally refers to a televised course delivered “synchronously” at a particular site, a particular time, and with a “live” instructor, distributed education refers to “asynchronous” education from a computer server or other computer file. Students may choose when to connect to an asynchronous course, and they may choose their own learning paces. Often they may navigate through the course in differing non-linear sequences. Timings of course completion might also vary for students who begin a distributed education course at identical times.

a. Does your accountancy program currently offer asynchronous distributed education courses? If so, briefly describe these courses below:

b.Briefly describe the type of instructor/student interactions in your distributed education courses, including contact with online instructors.

c.Are your asynchronous accounting courses available to the public on the World Wide Web? If so, please provide the WWW URL addresses below:
