Early Graduates
According to the Virginia Department of Education:
“If a student graduates with a Standard, Advanced, or IB diploma in the Fall (or anytime during the school year), you must exit this student with a W730 at that time. When they are awarded one of these diplomas, they are considered post graduates and are no longer eligible for ADM (average daily membership).”
Therefore, beginning with the 2012-2013 school year MCPS started implementing the following procedures.
- If a student finishesthe requirements for graduation at the end of first semester and will not be returning to take additional courses during second semester, he/she must be withdrawn as a graduate at that time. This student will no longer be active for second semester; therefore, his/her schedule should not contain courses for term S2.
Please complete the following in PowerSchoolfor any student meeting this scenario at the end of first semester:
a)Inactivate the student with a withdrawal code of W730 and a withdrawal date of12/17/16 (day after the last day of first semester). Use the “Transfer Out of School” option under Functions (Enrollment).
b)Populate “Graduate/Other Completer Code” on the student’s General Tabof the State/Province – VA page with the correct diploma type of Standard or Advanced.
c)Populate “Diploma Seal” on the student’s General Tabof the State/Province – VApage if applicable.
d)Populate “Graduation Plan Code” on the student’s General Tabof the State/Province – VApage with the appropriate plan.
e)The student will be “officially” graduated at the end of the school year and placed in the Graduated Studentsschool by the MIS department.
- If a student finishes the requirements for graduation by completing the Project Aim program and will not be returning to take additional courses during the school year, he/she must be withdrawn as a graduate at that time. This student will no longer be active for the remainder of the school year.
