According to the Programme for Statistical Surveys (2008-2012) and the Law on State Statistics, the next Census of population, households and dwellings is scheduled for 1- 15 April 2011.

In the State Statistical Office (SSO) of the Republic of Macedonia, in terms of preparatory works for the next Census of population, households and dwellings 2011, the following activities were realized:

• Intensive preparations since 2008 in accordance with:

-UN/Eurostat Recommendation for the 2010 Censuses of Population and housing in the ECE Region,

-continuation and comparability with previous censuses

• CES Recommendations for the 2010 Census have been translated;
• Global Plan and Operative Plan of activities for preparation, organization and realization of the Census of population, households and dwellings, 2011 were prepared;
• The methodological bases and census instruments have been prepared upon UN/ECE Recommendations, and they are harmonized.
• The Pilot Census was conducted in the period from 15 to 30 May 2009 in 20 randomly chosen enumeration areas in the Skopje, the Polog and the East region in 12 municipalities and covered around 2000 households and 10000 persons, at the same time respecting the representation of both urban and rural areas, as well as the multiethnic structure of the population. The census methodology and census questionnaires are acceptable and understandable for the population and enumerators, with no essential remarks, only a few minor suggestions on the formulation of the questions and questionnaires design.
• Estimation on the needed financing is done;
• A Draft Census Law has been prepared and the adoption of the Census Law is scheduled for May 2010.
• According to the agreement concluded between the Real Estate Cadastre Agency and the SSO, the updating of the statistical cadastre and the creation of enumeration districts for the needs of the 2011 Census started from the beginning of 2010;
• In 2010 the SSO plans to increase the census staff by 5 persons;
• The State Statistical Office of the Republic of Macedonia is fully prepared at professional and expert level for the realization of the next Census 2011;
