PURPOSE OF ROLE
Many of our service users enjoy spending time in the community, with some requiring assistance in order to be able to achieve this. As a Resident Community Support you will facilitate the resident to leave the home and engage with the local community.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Accompaniment

  • Accompany the service user on visits out in to the local community.

  • Discuss with the service user what they would like to do, or where they would like to go, during the trip. Each resident will have different needs.

  • Common activities include: going to the supermarket; going shopping, attending church services; going to the cinema; visiting family and friends.

  • Residents at Treetops have specifically requested support to go swimming, and to go to church.

  1. Health & Safety/Staff Liaison and Reporting

  • Ensure that the service user is safe at all times during the outing.

  • Discuss any concerns that either you or the client may have about potential risks or hazards associated with the outing, and report these to a member of staff.

  • Reporting to staff on the outcome of the visits, including any positive aspects as well as problems or incidents.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Skills: /
  • People skills will be required, as your interaction with the service user will often be on a one to one basis.

  • It would be beneficial to be physically active, as you will have to walk around with the resident, and may be required to push a wheelchair under certain circumstances.

Qualities: /
  • Friendly and approachable – able to build a rapport with service users.

  • Adaptable – the resident may wish to do something different every time you accompany them. Although you will not be required to participate in any activity if you do not wish to, it would be helpful to keep an open mind about what the resident might wish to do.

  • Creative – Sometimes the resident may not know what they want to do when they go out, and may ask you for suggestions.

TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES BENEFITS TO VOLUNTEER
Training & Development: /
  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults training will be provided.

  • All volunteers will be given full training in proper practice for escorting service users away from Livability property.

  • Opportunities for additional training and development will be made available if they would enhance your ability to undertake the role.

DURATION AND TIME COMMITMENT
We would like to be able to offer our residents the ability to go out in to the community as often as we can. Currently visits rely on when staff are available during the day, so having someone to supplement this responsibility will make a big difference.
As such we would be happy for you to accompany residents on visits as often as you feel able, however a regular commitment, such as once a week or once a fortnight would be most beneficial.
