As mentioned in the previous newsletter the Mission and Vision of Cigre has been finalized as follows:
Mission
To be the world’s foremost collaborative technical reference organization for all aspects of electric power systems
Vision
To be universally recognised as the leading global organisation for all aspects of electric power systems.
In support of the Mission and Vision it is necessary to define a set of values within which Cigre operates. This applies to all persons taking part in Cigre activities.
The 9 values defined are as follows:
  1. Independence - Provide a completely unbiased opinion and technical information to the power systems issues and problems;
  2. Accessibility - Dissemination of knowledge without barriers to the global community;
  3. Transparency - Processes, guidelines, finances to be transparent.
  4. Making a difference - Partnering through our national committees to spread our technical information for the betterment of society;
  5. Advancement - Grow and encourage the young generation and women in power delivery technology to participate and achieve their goals through participation;
  6. Cooperation - Collaborate with other international organisations of related interests;
  7. Professionalism - Always true and professional in all our actions
  8. Adaptability - Ability to address timeously, any issue affecting the power sector.
  9. Impartiality - Provide a forum for the true exchange of technical information without bias
As can be seen from the values the main characteristics Cigre member is to be an unbiased professional sharing information for the betterment of society. My own experience has been that sharing of information always has a two way benefit in that by sharing you also receive information which will benefit you. One of the biggest benefits of Cigre is the ability to bounce ideas off other experts, share experiences and receive excellent unbiased professional advice and information on your topic. As I have mentioned previously, within the Cigre membership there is someone, somewhere, who has the same technical challenge as yourself and has solved it or is in the process of solving it.
By embracing these values it is possible to collaborate either informally or within the working group structure, to find solutions to any problem or challenge you may come across.
