Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for Technology and NetworkAccess
Thepurposeofthispolicyistomeettherequirementsofstateandfederallaw(i.e.,Children'sInternetProtectionAct,CIPA)andtoprovideguidelinesforsafe,legal,andethicaluseofZECA School of the Arts and Technology (ZSAT).InordertocomplywithCIPA,thisdocumentwillserveasZEGACharterSchool'sInternetSafetyPolicy.QuestionsregardingthispolicyortechnologyuseshouldbedirectedtotheSystemAdministrator.
A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT: Use of any or all ZSAT technology, including thenetwork,hardware,software(bothlocallyinstalledandweb-based),Internetaccess,theZSATwebsite,andemailisaprivilege,notaright.Allusersmustcompleteandreturntheappropriate"agreementacknowledgement" beforeuse.
USERSWILL:
•Access ZECAcomputers,network,Internet,applicationsande-mailwiththe username(s) and password(s)assigned tothem only.
•Keeptheusernameandpasswordassigned tothem private.
•Changetheirpassword(s)frequentlyandwhenrequested.
USERSWILL NOT:
•Access ZECA's computers,network,Internet,applications,ore-mailwith the username(s)andpassword(s)ofothers.
•Storetheirassignedusernameandpasswordinalocationwhereothersmayeasily findit.
•Use password(s) that can beeasilyguessedsuchasnamesandbirthdates.
NOEXPECTATIONOFPRIVACY:ZECAreservestherighttomonitorallcomputer useandreservestherighttoaccessandexaminealldatastoredonoraccessedfromZECAcomputersoritsnetwork.Usersareadvisedthattheyshouldhavenoexpectationofprivacy.
USERSWILL:
•Respect the privacy and confidentialityof others.
USERS WILL NOT:
•Attempt to access or delete the filesofothers.
LIABILITYANDRESPONSIBILITY:ZECAwillnotbeliablefortheactionsofusers;eachuserbearsfulllegalandfinancialliabilityfortheiruseofZECAtechnology.ZECAtakesnoresponsibilityforanyinformationormaterialsthatareaccessedortransmittedbyusersviatheInternet.StudentuseofZECAtechnologywillonlyoccurunderthesupervisionoffacultyorstaff.
USERS WILL:
•Take full moral, legal, and financial responsibility for their actions while using ZECA technology
•Limit their use of ZECA technology to purposes deemed appropriate by ZECA
•Demonstrate appropriate etiquette when using ZECA technology
•Report receipt of threatening or inappropriate messages or files.
USERS WILL NOT:
•Use ZECA’s technology to engage in illegal activity such as the purchase or sale of drugs,
criminal gang activity or “hacking”.
•Violate any local, state or federal statutes.
•Create, copy or distribute materials that are threatening or obscene.
•Use inappropriate language or images.
•Engage in any form of cyberbullying.
CONTENT FILTERINGAND SECURITY:
ZECA makes every effort tofiltercontent deemed obscene or harmful to minors, including child pornography. ZECA uses anti-virussoftware thatprotects the network and computers. ZECAwill monitor theactivitiesofusersforcompliancewith thispolicy.
USERSWILL:
•Only access websites that are notblockedby ZECA's contentfilters.
•Immediatelycloseoutofawebsiteifthecontent displayed isinappropriate.
•Immediatelyreporttothesupervisingstaffif they become aware of apossiblesecurityissue.
USERS WILLNOT:
•Attempt to subvert network security ortoimpair the functionality of any ZECAtechnology.
•Attempt to bypass ZECAcontent filters andrestrictions.
•Postchainletters,distributespam,createand/or intentionally infectZECAtechnology or network with avirus.
•Stream live video or audio withoutpermission from the SystemAdministrator.
HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE:
ZECA provides users with hardware and softwareappropriate for use in an educational setting. Users will respect ZECA-owned technology anduse personal technology devices withcaution.
USERSWILL:
•Understand that computers andperipherals are the property ofZECA.
•Only use software purchased byandlicensedtoZECAcomputers.
USER WILL NOT:
•Take any action that impairs theoperation of any piece ofZECAtechnology.
•Place food or beverages in closeproximity of ZECA technology.
•AttempttoinstallsoftwareonZECAcomputers, unless given writtenpermission by
SystemAdministrator.
•Copy ZECA owned software oruseZECA computers to copysoftwareowned byothers.
INTERNET ACCESS AND SAFETY:
ZECA provides Internet access to staff and students forthepurposeofresearch,disseminationofinformation,collaboration,andaccesstocurriculum/professionalmaterials.
USERSWILL:
•Participate in Internet safetyinstructionprovidedbyZECA.Instructionwilloccurannuallybyassembly,guidedlessons,ordistributedmaterials.
•Primarily use ZECA computers andInternetfor educationally relevantpurposes.
•Beallowedtousetheprivate blogandchatfeatures provided throughZECA.
USERS WILLNOT:
•Post or share any personalinformationwithout written consent andpermissionfrom SystemAdministrator.
•Accesspublicsocialwebsites,chatroomsand instant messaging servicesduringworkinghoursunlessitisajobrequirementwith written permission fromSystemAdministrator.
COPYRIGHTANDPLAGIARISM:
Userswillobeyallcopyrightlawsandwillnotplagiarize
USERSWILL:
•Agreetousecopyrightedmaterialonlywhenpermissionhasbeengranted.
•Correctlyciteallmaterialsreferencedintheirwork.
•FollowFairUse-section107ofUScopyrightlaw.
USERS WILLNOT:
•Taketheideasorwritingsofothersandpresent
themastheirown.
•"Copy/cut and paste" from the Internetor other
digital sources to a document which they
will submit as their work withoutciting source
WEBSITE:
ZEGAstrivestomaintainanup-to-datewebsiteforthebenefitoffaculty,staff,students, parents,guardiansandthecommunityatlarge.AllguidelineslistedinthisdocumentapplytotheuseanddesignofZEGA'swebsite.
USERSWILL:
•Only post informationthatiseducationallyrelevantand/orrelatedtoschoolbusiness
USERS WILLNOT:
•Attempt to disable or impair the functionality of the ZECA website.
CONSEQUENCESOFMISUSE:ProhibitedconductmayresultinJossofcomputer/networkprivileges,disciplinaryactionand/orcriminalorcivilprosecutionunderStateandFederalLaw.
•Forstudents,violationsofanyoftheaboveguidelinesmayresultinthelossofaccessand/or additional disciplinaryaction.
•Forstaff,aviolationofthispolicymayresultindisciplinaryactionrangingfromaverbalwarningorsuspensionofsystem privilegesuptoandincludingterminationofemployment.
•Whenapplicable,ZEGAwilladviseappropriateJawenforcementagenciesofsuspectedillegalactivities conducted through ZEGA'snetwork.
•ZEGA reservestherighttoseek reimbursementand/orindemnificationfromtheuser,foranylossesincurredorpenaltiespaidasaresultofauser'sdisallowedactivities.TheExecutiveDirectorordesigneewillmakethefinaldeterminationastowhatconstitutesunacceptableuseandtheirdecisionisfinal.
