Attendance/Citizenship/Tardy Policy
·  For Attendance, please see page 2 in student handbook.
·  For Citizenship, please see page 4 in student handbook. I also take into account their classroom behavior.
Students are expected to come to class prepared, participate appropriately, and be respectful.
·  For Tardy Policy, please see page 11 in student handbook.
Homework/Tests
·  Students are responsible to have homework completed by the end of the chapter. Most homework assignments will be done through Aleks.com. Assignments will be short (5 or 6 questions usually) and can be repeated until mastered with 100%. Aleks can be accessed through any device with internet capabilities (smart phone, tablet, computer, laptop, etc.) Access to computers will also be available M-Th from 3-4 PM in computer lab 2 with a math teacher available for help.
·  All assignments from the chapter are due the day of the chapter test. Students are responsible for keeping all work in their binder until the day of the tests. Late assignments will be given half credit if turned after the day of the test.
·  Students may do test corrections and fix missed test problems to receive half of the missed points back. Students also need to give a reason for missing the problem. Corrections are due three days after the test is handed back to students. Test corrections must be done with someone who can assist in correcting errors. Students may get help from homework lab after school, look up how to solve the problems online, get help from their parents, or make an appointment with me to get help.
Absence/Late Work
·  Students are responsible for obtaining homework assignments even when they are absent. Many times students just need to ask a friend what they missed in class. Most assignments will be on Aleks, so you can also check there. Any paper assignments will be in the boxes by the door to the classroom. They will have to correct the assignment on their own time before the chapter test.
·  Students will be given 3 “whoops” passes each term. These passes may be used when unprepared, to turn in a late assignment, as a hall pass for the bathroom, drink, or locker, or to erase one tardy. Un-used passes will be extra credit at the end of the term. Notes left in their locker or at home are considered unprepared and must use a whoops pass. Once passes are gone, the Citizenship grade will be docked. I am not responsible for lost passes.
·  If a student is absent on a test day, it is that student’s responsibility to come in to make the test up.
Extra Credit
·  Unused hall passes will be worth 5 points at the end of the term.
·  Do not rely on extra credit to give you the grade you want. You earn your grade through doing your homework to 100%, studying for tests, and doing test corrections. It is very possible to get an A in this class!
Other information
·  Classroom discipline policy: 1st and 2nd offense – verbal warning, 3rd offense – Student records behavior issue in the discipline book 4th offense – Student-Teacher Conference and call home 5th offense – Sent to office
·  I believe in a collaborative, positive class culture and will be cultivating this climate throughout the year. The classroom policies are set up for students to be successful and look forward to furthering all students’ math knowledge.
·  This is an honors course. It is my goal to truly challenge these students! Math is fun. We will have a good time, but each student needs to be ready to work hard in and out of class. Students will be challenged to teach themselves the material, with me available to help answer questions and guide them in the right path. Students may have more/harder questions on assignments or be asked to submit a writing piece. Students will have honors questions on their tests. They may also have other units added to their curriculum.

Accelerated Pathway Pilot Program:

Some students are able to master curriculum at an accelerated pace. When a student has mastered grade level curriculum, they can continue on to the next course. In order to advance to the next course there are three criteria that must be met:

· Complete and master the grade level ALEKS course topics.
· Demonstrate course mastery in SAGE by scoring:

o 7th grade—475 or higher
o 8th grade—528 or higher
o 9th grade—563 or higher.

(SAGE testing window is October 2nd to March 9th.)

· Complete review material that covers coursework already completed by the class that they are entering.
