Academic Assistance for Nursing Prerequisites Courses
PRN students seeking to insure their best academic effort may wish to consider some of the suggestions below, beyond office hours with instructors or TAs or additional options outlined on course syllabi.
Students taking Chemistry courses to satisfy the School of Nursing Chemistry prerequisite should be advised that they can seek additional academic support for Chemistry in the Chemistry Learning Center.
The Chemistry Learning Center is for students who wish to improve their ability to learn Chemistry. Participation is voluntary and there is no fee. CLC offers a supportive learning environment where students meet in small groups with staff to work out effective strategies for mastering the chemical content.

Other prerequisites, such as those satisfying the remaining sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and those satisfying the social sciences: Sociology, Psychology or Growth and Development can be supported through Greater University Tutoring Services (GUTS). It is advisable to act quickly though, since matching students and tutors can take some time.
GUTS is an academic success program dedicated to the following ways of assisting UW students:
* Drop-In tutoring in academic subjects starts Monday, September 13, in College Library in Helen C. White Hall. Tutors are available in math, sciences, economics, foreign languages, and other subjects. Visit the GUTS homepage for an updated Drop-In schedule.
* Academic Match tutoring is accepting registrations for both tutees and volunteer tutors in all academic subjects. Tutors and tutees are matched together in small groups by course to meet weekly throughout the semester for on-going academic support.
* Study Skills peer advisors are available to assist students with concerns such as exam taking, time management, reading and note-taking techniques, and other study habits.
* Conversational English is accepting registrations for conversation partners. The program matches international students with English speakers for conversation, English practice, fun, and friendship.
* Foreign Language Learners matches interested students in conversation groups with native speakers of foreign languages for conversation practice not tied to specific courses.
* The Give-and-Take program pairs students who are willing to share their tutoring skills in one area, such as an academic subject, in exchange for tutoring in another area, such as conversational English.
* The Peer Learning program works with departments and professors to establish intensive peer-learning groups within specific courses, providing students with opportunities to teach course concepts to one another and fostering for them greater mastery of course subject matter.
