Visiting Scholars’ Agreements
General Policies Agreement
1. All applications must be received no less than 90 days prior to the start of the attending semester
2. Visiting scholars are NOT permitted to pursue a degree or take courses for academic credit while on the Bemidji State University Campus
3. All applicants will be interviewed, either through Skype, or by a designated representative, to verify that they possess the minimum requisite English language ability.
4. All participants must arrive at the Bemidji State University campus within 14 days of the start of the semester; otherwise the visiting scholar risks termination of their application and related immigration documents. Upon acceptance of their application, Bemidji State University will communicate with successful candidates regarding the ideal time frame for the visiting scholar to arrive in Bemidji, Minnesota.
5. Bemidji State University does not permit visiting scholars to bring visitors or dependents while they are resident at the university except during the last two weeks of the program. For visitors that are brought during that period, the scholars will be responsible for bearing all additional costs for the visitors. These visitors will need to apply for tourist visas; J-2 visas will not be issued.
6. Visiting scholars may select either a one-semester program or a one academic year program. No other program lengths are available to participants.
7. Visiting scholars must perform research or non-credit academic study while at Bemidji State University in order to meet the expectations of both Bemidji State University and the visiting scholar’s home universities
8. Visiting scholars must provide the Director of International Relations with all contact information (address, phone number, and e-mail contact information) within one week of their arrival in the USA.
9. Visiting scholars are required to attend weekly or scheduled Scholar Academy Program activities, or risk termination of their program. Absences from campus for any reason during the regular term require prior written approval from BSU’s Director of International Relations.
10. Visiting scholars are responsible for paying all the fees required by the program. These fees must be paid in full upon arrival.
11. Visiting scholars are required to write a final report and presentation for the program before returning their home country or university.
This is a binding agreement. Your signature below confirms that you have read, understand, and agree to abide by all the policies and procedures stated within this document. If you have any questions or concerns, these should be addressed prior to signing this agreement.
