Gen. 19:1 ______

Abraham is living by the oaks of Mamre. Review what has already happened at this site:

Gen. 14:13—14, 24

The LORD had spoken to Abraham and also appeared to him before this event.

What time of day was it? ______(18:1)

In these verses we see that he bowed himself (worshiped), offered hospitality (to wash feet; prepared

bread, meat, milk products), and they ate. Abraham’s actions of hospitality were consistent with the customs of the Near East. He was a gracious host.

Gen. 18:9—15 include Sarah.

Why do you think they inquired about Sarah’s whereabouts? ______

Where was she? ______

What information did they want her to hear? ______(18:10)

How do we know that Chapter 18 is a continuation Chapter 19? Note the ages mentioned.

See 17:1 and ______

17:17 ______

The LORD had already told Abraham about his many descendants and the land he would have.

What new information is in 18:10? ______

What was Sarah’s reaction? ______What do you think this showed?______

What was her stated reason for this reaction? v. 12 & 13 ______

What was her ultimate conclusion? Heb. 11:11 ______

From Gen. 17:17 we know that Abram once laughed about this promise, but it seems that he may have

been convinced. See Romans. 4:18—21.

Isa. 59:1

Rom. 16:25

Eph. 3:20

2 Tim. 1:12

Heb. 7:25

Day TwoRead Gen. 18:16—19. Another purpose of their visit is becoming known.

Where were they headed? ______

What is the LORD’s stated reason for informing Abraham about His intentions?

“Abraham will become ______

and in him ______

“I have ______him

to keep ______

by doing ______and ______

Why would Abraham be interested in sparing Sodom? ______

In verse 25 Abraham refers to the LORD as the “Judge of all the earth.” What do we learn from

Psalm 96:13

Isa. 2:4

Acts 10:42 (and 2 Tim. 4:1)

Acts 17:31

Romans 14:10 (and 2 Cor. 5:10)

By Gen. 18:32 the Lord had agreed that if 10 righteous people were found, He would not destroy
Sodom. We do not know how many people lived in Sodom, but we do know that it was a “city”, not a village or town, was divided into “quarters” Gen. 19:4, that people lived in houses (not tents, 19:3), and was walled (“gate” mentioned in 19:1). Whatever the total population, 10 would have been a very small percentage!! Spend a little time and think about the difference between “moral” or “good” and “righteous.” What sets righteousness apart? ______
