UK and T&T HEALTH MOU
UKTI T&T has developed a government to government, private sector cooperation agreement to take forward projects in the local health sector. It is anticipated that this MOU will be signed prior to the mission’s visit.
ABOUT T&T’s HEALTH SECTOR
The 23rd Triennial Meeting of the Commonwealth Medical Association will take place in Trinidad from 4th to 7th July 2013. In 2013/2013 the health sector was allocated £67.3 Million less construction. Health Sector Reform Programme projects include: a Health Needs Assessment Plan and development of a benchmarking framework to assess performance of facilities. / TRINIDAD & TOBAGO’S HEALTH SECTOR OPPORTUNITIES
  • Projects within the Ministry of Health 2012/2013: training, HR, Technical Assistance, IT, Hospitals Commissioning & Decommissioning, Physical Investments and Hospitals Enhancement and Development Programmes.
  • 2013-2015: Construction of an Oncology Centre @ £56.5 Million; Construction of a new Arima Hospital @ £71.1 Millionand Healthcare Equipment @ £4 Million in 2013, £7.5 Million in 2014 and £2.3 Million in 2015 for healthcare agencies; and construction of a Central Hospital including a Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre.

BARBADOS HEALTH SECTOR OPPORTUNITIES
Ministry of Health allocated Bds$137 Million for 2013/2014. Projects:Consideration of construction of anew general hospital @ US$400 Million. Goods and Services:Spare parts suppliers, Laboratory equipment & instruments, Patient monitoring equipment and Sterilisation & disinfection. An annual tender for pharmaceutical and drug requirementsfor Barbados is published in September. Wide range of health-related trainingrequired for hospital staff and 10 associated poly-clinics. Ambulances/Materials for the operational use– further details will be available after a specific consultation in May. Need for an electronic medical records hospital system.
CUBA HEALTH SECTOR OPPORTUNITIES
The reach of the Cuban market for the healthcare industry is enhanced given its influence and leading position within ALBA countries and some African countries making Cuba either a buyer or a decision-maker at the time of selecting a product for many of these markets.
Specific Health Sector Needs:Spare parts suppliers, Anesthetic equipment, Diagnostic equipment & kits, Laboratory equipment & instruments, Patient monitoring equipment, Oxygen equipment & devices, Orthopedic equipment & supplies, Surgical equipment & instruments and Sterilisation & disinfection. Specific requestswithinthe area of supplies and spare parts:Suppliers for Ethylene oxide gas in cylinders*1 and Suppliers for the metallic tubes for X-Rays machines (the Rods of tungsten for the X-Ray machines). It is standard and it should be compatible withSIEMEN’s equipment.

  • British Airways and Virgin flies direct from the UK to Barbados and British Airways and Caribbean Airlinesdirect to Trinidad. Virgin flies direct to Cuba only on Monday and Thursday so departure on Saturday will be via Air France or Air Europa.
