About the School

Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School is a co-educational Senior Secondary School recognized by the Directorate of Education, Delhi Administration as a ‘Recognised Un-aided Private School’ and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education for the All India Secondary School Examination (Class X) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII).

The School is a Sikh minority institution established by the Management Committee of Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Model Town, Delhi, in July 1974, with a view to provide an institution with a modern approach to education on public school lines as well as inculcating in its students the lofty ideals of the Sikh religion and deriving inspiration from the life of the ninth Sikh Guru whose supreme sacrifice was witnessed by Delhi a few centuries ago.

Aims & Objectives

The School aims at providing value oriented quality education in English medium to the children of desirous residents of Model Town and in its vicinity.

The school’s objective is to provide quality education to fulfil national objectives as envisaged in the National Policy of education, 1986. In addition to academic excellence, the school aims at development of physical, intellectual, moral and aesthetic potential of the students through co-curricular activities.

The School draws inspiration from the great ethical and moral principles enshrined in the teachings of the Sikh gurus, combined with the modern techniques of, thus the school motto ‘Vich Duniya Sev Kamayeeai’ (service to mankind).

Campus and Infrastructure

The school is located on a 4.5 acres plot in Model Town Northex, Delhi-9. Vast open play fields provide diverse sports and game facilities. The classrooms are spacious, airy and well maintained. The school has AC Rooms for pre-school and pre-primary classes.

NIIT Smart Class Multimedia Systems

NIIT Smart Class Systems equipped with Interactive Multimedia Boards are installed in Classes VI, VII and VIII.

Computer Lab

The school boasts of a spacious and modern multimedia enabled computer laboratory.

Science Labs

Science is organized knowledge to evolve scientific temperament. The science labs are equipped with latest gadgets and modern equipments for carrying out experiments and project works for all classes.

Library

“Some books are to be tested, some to be chewed and some to be digested”. To enhance the reading skills among the students, the school has a spacious library housing academics and competitive books, journals, fiction, non fiction, etc.

Rules for admission

The prescribed minimum age limits for admissions as on 31st March are as under:

Pre-School: 3yrs+

Pre-Primary: 4yrs+

Class 1st: 5yrs+

Class 10th: 14 yrs

Class 12th: 10th pass with one year gap

Streams Offered in 11th and 12th:

·  Science: English Core, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Home Science/Computer Science.

·  Commerce: English Core, Mathematics, Economics, Accountancy, Business Studies, Computer Science, Home Science, Physical Education.

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction is English. Hindi/Punjabi is taught as compulsory language up to class X. Punjabi is prescribed as the third language for classes VI to VIII.

Syllabi

For classes I to VIII, the syllabi have been laid down by the school as per NCERT framework. For classes IX to XII, the CBSE syllabi are followed. The school offers Science (Medical and Non-Medical) and Commerce streams at the +2 stage.

The curriculum includes work experience programmes like Computer Application, Socially Useful Productive Work etc. Physical and Health Education Programmes

Life Skills & Personality Development

The unique LS & PD Department of the school ensures that all educational activities are carefully designed and organised to meet the main objective of enhancing the personality of all children whether participating actively or part of the audience.

Sports & Games

Extensive playground facilities are available for playing various Sports and Games. Traditional games of Hockey, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, Cricket and Athletics, are included as part of the Physical Education and games programme. To cater to the needs of Pre School and Pre Primary children, an exclusive playground, ‘Sunshine Park’ has been developed. The school participates in all Zonal inter-school and CBSE organised competitions.

Co-Curricular Activities

To foster a healthy spirit of competition amongst students, inter-school, Zonal and Inter-Zonal Competitions in various activities such as Debate, Declamation, Essay-Writing, Art Music and Dance are held regularly. Routine educational excursions, picnics, camps and visits are planned for all classes. Other activities include the Annual School Magazine ‘Rooprekha’, the Monthly Newsletter ‘Gurdisha’, Annual Sports Day, Students’ Council, Educational Excursions, Adventure Camps, visits to places of interest, NIE (Newspapers in Education) and PACE Programmes.

Hobby Clubs

Every child has some inborn talent. We offer children plenty of opportunity to sharpen their inbound skills, develop new interests and discover their latent talents outside the classroom. Our extensive grounds provide the perfect space for many hobbies and clubs. The various hobby clubs include, Arts Club, Music Club, Electronics Club, Science Club, Maths & Abacus Club, Dramatics & Puppetry Club, and Literary Club. Each club has an identity, style and agenda of its own. The ambience in these clubs stimulates healthy learning and the trained people in their respective fields act only as moderators; the students are given the opportunity to organize the activities of the clubs.

Bharat Scouts & Guides Wing

The Bharat Scouts and Guides programme has been introduced in the school. It is a voluntary programme the purpose of which is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of local, national and international communities. Primary Students are known as Cubs (Boys) /Bulbuls (Girls) whereas Middle/Secondary/Sr. Secondary students are known as Scouts (Boys) / Guides (Girls). The students will have to bear the cost towards uniform and equipment to be supplied by Bharat Scouts and Guides State Headquarters. A special adventure and training camp for the member children is organized every year. Selected teachers have been trained by the BS & G organisation to impart this specialized training.

Evaluation

The Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) System comprising formative and summative assessment in both scholastic and co-scholastic domains as laid down by the CBSE is followed.

Canteen

The school canteen is run on contract. A contractor is appointed to ensure wholesome readymade snacks are available at reasonable rates.

Schedule of Payment

I Quarter: April, May June By 15 April

II Quarter: July, August, September By 15 July

III Quarter: October, November, December By 15 October

IV Quarter: January, February, March By 15 January

All school fees are to be paid by the 15th of each alternate month through the school fee-booklet in cash at the HDFC Bank Ltd, D-2/3, Model Town - III, Delhi-110 009 between 9.30 am to 2.30 pm from Monday to Friday and between 9.30 am to 11.00 am on Saturdays in the School Account No. 100011450000044.

Payments by cheque will be accepted in the school.

No payments will be accepted without the fee booklet.

Medical Facilities

A well equipped Medical Inspection Room with a qualified full time nurse is available. Students undergo thorough medical and dental examination by part-time Medical Officer.

Parents Teachers Association

Parents are major stakeholders in the functioning of a school. The school has an active PTA which has been formed to ensure all round progress of the school. The PTA comprises of two bodies, General Body and the Executive Committee. All the parents of the school are enrolled in the General Body. The Executive Committee consists of elected members in accordance with Government guidelines. Elections are normally held in the last week of April. The PTA association fee is Rs 25/- annually, which is to be paid by all parents.

Fees and Freeship

Tuition Fees have been kept at the minimum. Fee Concessions are granted to students as per Govt Rules. A limited number of Fee Concessions, free books and uniforms are also granted to deserving students on merit-cum-means.

Withdrawal

Parents/guardians wishing to withdraw their wards must give one month notice or one month’s fees in lieu of the notice before the pupil can be withdrawn. Those who leave the school in May must in all cases pay the fees of the month and the month of June. Transfer certificate will only be issued when all the school dues have been paid.

House System

The entire student strength is divided into four houses in order to propagate team spirit and give a competitive edge, along with the overall development of the child.

Each house is guided and controlled by a House I/C (nominated teacher) duly assisted by House Captain (selected student). It is allotted a colour and flag. Most of the intra-school competitions and co-curricular activities are conducted under the system.

Absenteeism

Students who remain absent for long periods without any intimation from their parents/guardians and or permission from the Principal will be struck off rolls. Such students will not be readmitted unless there is a genuine reason for their absence.
