ABOUT THE CREATIVE ARTS FACULTY

The Creative Arts Faculty at Sunbury Manor School includes Art, Drama, Music and PE. These subjects are each led within the faculty by a Department Head.

The unique nature of each subject is recognised within the faculty, and the existence of a Creative Arts Faculty gives each of these subjects a powerful voice in the school. The faculty system in no way diminishes the individual contribution of each subject area to the life of the school.

The faculty team meet together regularly to engage in professional debate, and to make decisions regarding the direction of the faculty within the school.

The Academic Structure of the School

The school is divided into nine faculties, each one managed by a Faculty Head. S/he is, in turn, line-managed by one of the school’s senior management team. These faculties are:

The Creative Arts (Mr Gareth Eynon)

English (Miss Leigh Edmond)

Humanities (Rev Michaela Wood)

Mathematics (Mrs Jacqui Betteridge)

Modern Languages (Mr Graham Douglas)

Science (Mr Dave Mellows)

Technology (Miss Amanda Brittney)

Learning Support (Ms Sarah Rennie)

ICT (Miss Leslie Mohally)

Faculty Heads meet on a regular basis and have an important voice in the school’s decision-making processes. A school governor is linked to each faculty area.

Faculty Heads work closely together to plan schemes of work, observe lessons and discuss whole school developments.

About the Music Department:

·  Class sizes 20 – 22

·  2 designated Music rooms/ suites

·  Close working relationship with Drama Department for school shows

·  Performance Evenings

·  Recent trips to Paris/ Barcelona

·  Lively Department – students are enthusiastic about Music

·  This term (Spring 2012) has seen a transformation in the Music Department due to a successful bid for funds of nearly £12,000 from the HR Taylor Trust, a Surrey based charity supporting music in schooland local community projects. Part of the money has funded new music keyboards and computer desks to aid our technology provision. Another part of the grant has paid for a new PA system which will be used for performance evenings, the forthcoming tour to Paris and for recordings at Key Stage 4. It will also enable BTEC students to learn more about sound recordings, a popular choice of career for many of our year 11 students.

·  The main difference has been in the Second Music Room where 4 new Jam hub stations allow students to practise together using bass and electric guitars, keyboards, electronic drum kits and microphones without disturbing each other. All this equipment was provided by the HR Taylor trust bid.
