About the books in the library:
We have opened six sections in the library based on the requirement in different places the library operates.
- Balavihar Home library: 270 books
- Balavihar common library: 165 books
- Balavihar Pinewoods reading room: 296 books.
- Balavihar Pinewoods Lending library: 395 books.
- Balavihar Luminary library: 220 books
- Balavihar Reference Books.
The library has a collection of children’s fiction suitable for children from class I to X. Books on great personalities of the world, books on Indian mythology like Ramayana and Mahabharata, Buddha, Shankara, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Vivekananda and other stories from Puranas, books on drawing, art, painting, craft, books on design, Quiz books on science, history, environment, electronics, English classics form a part of our collection. We got a donation of a set of 20 Encyclopedia general, 10 volumes of life sciences encyclopedia, about 100 small book let type Knowledge and understanding science from friends. These books help the children to prepare for their projects and exhibitions.
We buy books from National book trust, Childrens book trust, Pratham books, {Read India), Media fusion, Navneet Publications, and others publications available at
Sapna book stores a very big book store in Bangalore. We buy second hand imported books from Blossom Book store and Anand Book house in Jayanagar in Bangalore. We got some good books children’s encyclopedia from a book store in Ahmedabad in the book fair.
We have spent an amount of Rs.17000 from Asha’s funds given for books.
We got a very good donation of books from friends.
Other than these we have a good collection of puzzles, teaching aids for the English programme.
The collection is just a beginning. The children are making a good use of it.
About the assessment:
We have taken the feed back from the students about their comments on the library books and about the activity center. We are also in the process of getting letters from the heads of institutions.
We will be completing our work with the government school children by the end of this month and we will write a progress report like in terms of the progress they have made intheir reading and wrting skills in English.
Based on our experiences at the various schools, we will be preparing the time table for the next academic year . Our summer camps start from 15th of April for five weeks in different places.
