How does a language program work?

Entry test
On the first day, all participants will sit an entrance test in order to estimate their level. This test will allow the school to place all students in the appropriate level. Absolute beginners usually start with their class immediately.

Orientation

Most schools organize an orientation meeting on the main starting dates. Students will be informed about their program and important facts about the destination (sights, nightlife, safety, health etc).

If the school does not organize an orientation meeting, students can always ask the school’s staff for advice.

Courses

We offer courses for all language capabilities, from beginner to advanced – the skill level will be assessed on your first day so students will be assigned the appropriate class level. All courses are conducted entirely in the language that students are learning, but are structured to ensure that everybody progresses quickly. Courses normally run from Monday to Friday.

What’s the right course for your client?

We offer a broad range of courses from Standard and Intensive courses to Combined and Private programs. The longer a course lasts, the more clients can benefit. Depending on the duration of the course and your client’s goals, you may recommend a suitable course option.

Holiday and Standard courses

These courses consist of 15-20 lessons per week (half day). It’s the most suitable option if your client wants to have plenty of free time to hang out and explore the destination.

Intensive Courses

25-30 lessons per week (full day). If your client wants to achieve a rapid progress or has only a short time available, then an intensive course is most recommendable.

Combined and Private course

Clients with very particular needs (special topics, special interest) are recommended to take private lessons or to combine a standard/intensive course with one-to-one tuition. Private lessons are the most effective method to achieve great learning results.

Activity Program

We also offer activity programs combining the language program with activities such as dancing, cooking or surfing.

Beginners

Please note that beginner classes are usually not starting on any Monday. Some schools do not offer beginners classes at all. If you cannot chose “beginner” in the booking engine, it means that the selected course cannot be booked for beginners. In this case, please try an other date or book an other course (f.e private lessons) where beginners are accepted.

Course Materials

Course materials are usually included in the package price. In some schools, the first set of materials (for about 1-4 weeks) is included. You find this information in the inclusions section of the brochure and the website. If the material is not included, approximative prices are specified. Extra material fees may be invoiced or charged on the spot.

Exam fees

Some schools offer exam preparation courses for official language tests. Exam fees are not included.

Important

With his booking, the client commits to attending the program classes on a regular basis. Should the client not take part in all lessons that make up the program, the client is not entitled to a certificate of attendancy nor to any compensation.

Accommodation

The accommodation is usually reserved from the Sunday before the course starts until Saturday after the course ends. Extra accommodation nights can be requested with your booking.

Host Family

Staying with a host family provides your clients with the best insight into the everyday life of the locals. Students may join in with all aspects of family life. Host families are advised to only speak to students in their native language, so it’s the perfect opportunity to test out newfound skills.

Shared Flat

If your client prefers a bit more independence you may want to request the shared flat option that some schools offer. These are comfortable but basically furnished apartments where you’ll live with other international students and/or local people and share all facilities. Depending on the options available, you’ll have meals included or cook for yourself. We recommend this option for students who are happy to look after themselves and can get on with a variety of new people in a flat-share environment.

Student residence

This accommodation option is only available with a few schools. The residence is usually located in the same building as the school or somewhere nearby, so your student may spend less time commuting. Residences tend to offer single or shared rooms with shared kitchen, bathroom and washing facilities. We recommend this option for both independent travellers and those new to travel abroad.

Travel time

The travel distance to school may vary from school to school. In larger cities, students usually spend more time getting to school than in small places. In our booking-engine you find more information about travel times for each accommodation type.

Important

Please advice us of allergies or special diet requests as well as other requests. You can enter these requirements in the booking engine, corresponding text fields are provided.

Free Time

Most schools offer a ‘cultural program’ showcasing local traditions and customs and many also organize optional day excursions to the surrounding area to take in the sights. These need to be booked and paid for at the school.

Transfers

There is no standard offering when it comes to transfers to and from the airport to your clients’ accommodation. So do check the pricing boxes in the web and/or in the brochure to find out if it’s already included in your prices or not. If it’s not, we can always organize a transfer at an additional cost. If your client is new to travelling or unsure of how to get to the accommodation, we seriously recommend you book at least the arrival transfer to ensure your client gets there safely.

Public Holidays

Schools close on local public holidays and the reduction in lessons will not be substituted or compensated.

Insurance

Our packages do not include any insurances. Please note that in some countries health insurance is mandatory or highly recommended. globo-study is not responsible for any insurances. Please advice customers about insurance offers.

Visa and Health Requirements

Please make sure that your client is in possession of a valid passport, visa permits, inoculations and preventative medicines as required for the duration of the program. Where special student visas are required (f.e. Russia) globo-study will advice you and organize the necessary documents. In general, globo-study is not liable for any visa or health issues.
