Throughoutthisdocumentweusetheterm “Aboriginal”toreferto membersof FirstNations(statusandnon-status),Métisand InuitPeoplesof Canada.

PurposeoftheAboriginalStudent/FacultySupportFund:

ThepurposeoftheStudent/FacultySupportFund isto supportAboriginal graduatestudentsintheirtransitiontograduateschool andthedevelopment ofthesesanddissertations;tosupportAboriginalundergraduatestudentstodevelopacademicand careerskills;andtosupportAboriginalfacultymembersand sessionalinstructorsintheirresearchonAboriginalissues,interestsandconcernsandindevelopingAboriginal curriculumforRyerson.The fundingisaimedat connectingAboriginalgraduateandundergraduatestudentswith Aboriginalfacultyresearchandcurriculumdevelopmentprojects.However,supportcangotoAboriginalstudentsfor projectsandresearchnotdirectlyconnectedtothe workof anAboriginalfacultymemberorsessionalinstructor.Forexample,funding canenablefaculty, sessionalinstructors,staffandstudentstodeveloporparticipateinsymposia, workshops,etc.relevant to Aboriginaleducation,IndigenousknowledgesandotherissuesrelevanttoAboriginalcommunities.

TheStudent/FacultySupportFundisNOTintendedtofundbursaries, scholarships,equipmentorbooks.

AvailableFunding:

Becausefundingislimited, weaskthatrequestsbe modest.Typically, successfulproposalsdonotexceed$4,000.00. We will trytoensurethatthefundingsupportsamixofundergraduate/graduatestudents,faculty/sessionalinstructorsandstaff.In principle,weareunlikelytofund morethanoneproposalforanygivenindividual,butthatwill depend, in part,onthenumber ofproposalswereceiveforanygiven callandtheoverallamount requestedacrossproposals.Ifyousubmitmorethanoneproposal,pleaseranktheminorder ofpriority.

Onceall oftheproposalshavebeenreceived,theAboriginalEducationCouncilwill makethedecisionsregardingallocationoffunding.

WeEncourageApplicationsforFundingoftheFollowing:

• Research support
• Course projectsupport
• Fundingto present workatconferences(travel,accommodation,etc.)
• Fundingtoattendconferencesrelated to one’s program ofstudyor research
• Support to developcurriculum
• Supportfor applications to graduate school and PhD programs

Information to Include inthe Proposal:

• Your contactinformationincluding:name, mailingaddress, telephone number,Ryersonemailaddressand student number (if applicable)
• A clear description ofconference/research/course/etc. to be developed
• A narrative on thebackground andsignificance ofthe project, includingwhat will bedone,who is doingit, and its relevance for theAboriginal community
• In thecaseofarequest for fundingfor acourse project, a clear descriptionof what isneeded includingthecourse outline/materialsdescribingthe project
• Travel proposals should include aconference acceptance notification foryourpresentation or description ofthe conference ifnotpresenting(please notethat preferencewillgo to those who arepresentingat aconference)
• Note:Applicantchoosesthemost costeffective coverage of transportation,accommodations,etc.
• Ifa conference,symposium,etc.covers meals than those cannot be appliedfor inbudgetexpenses.Councilcoversmealsat therateof: $10 Breakfast, $15Lunch,

$25 Dinner.

• AdditionalInsurancecoverage shall be purchasedfrom the rental

company. Underthe purchasedinsurancecoverageonlythedriveris covered. Ifapplicantswish additional drivers to drive the rentedvehicle,extra insurance mustbe purchased.

• A detailed outlineofthebudget in atable format,indicatinghow fundswill be usedThiswillinclude hotel,food/meal,andtransportationcostsandwillprovide justificationfor these expenses.
• None issueof original receipts to Coordinator at end of projectwillresultinfullrepayment ofnon-identified expensesandaction from RyersonUniversityFinancialServices.Ifyou cannotprove youspent it accordingly you willberequired to pay back the University.
• Time lines:(projectstartand enddates,travel dates, etc.)

Successful Applicants Must

1)Submit abrief reportoutliningtheresults,outcomes, benefits,etc.oftheprojectuponcompletionoftheproject ortravel.

Projectsortravelmust be completed withFinalReportsand receiptssubmittedtotheAboriginalEducationCouncil Coordinator10daysaftertravel/project, etc. orby

1,2017(whichever issooner)inaccordancewithfiscal reportingrequirements.Afinalbudgetandalloriginalreceiptsforuseoffundingare tobe submittedwiththisreport.PleaseseetheattachedReportingTemplate.

NOTE: If you receivedfundinginthepast,buthavenotsubmittedareport and/orreceipts, youwillnotbeconsidered forfuture funding.

2)Alongwiththereport,submitabriefsummaryofwhatwasaccomplishedtobepostedontheAboriginalEducation Council’swebsite.

3)AllrecipientswhoreceiveAECfundingmust acknowledgetheAEC’ssupport intheirpromotionalmaterials,programs,presentationsand allothermediathisisan importantconditionofreceiptoffundingasitinformsthepublicoftheAEC’s supportandencouragesthepublicfundingofeducation.

4)Allrecipientswho receiveAECfundingwill includethe AEClogointhe following:

• Advertisingandpromotionalmaterials(e.g.posters,postcards,bulletins)
• Websites,Musiccredits(fordigitalmusicformats), filmand video credits

5)Whenplacingthe AEClogo inmaterials,donotchangethedimensions,proportionsorcolourofthe logo.The textmustbe legible,sodonotshrinkthelogotolessthan3 cmwide.Thelogocanbedownloaded fromtheAEC’swebsite

6)If youwere astudentatthetimeofthefundingaward, agreetobrieflypresentyourprojectattheannualAboriginal StudentShowcasescheduled everyspring.*AECreservestherighttoinvitepresenters,thereforenotallrecipientswillpresent.
