program on Youth sex trafficking
Local law enforcement and other community-based entities are the most likely to first encounter victims of human trafficking. While trafficking in young people is largely a hidden crime, trafficking victims are in plain sight if you, as the first responder, know what to look for. The goal of this program is to provide first responders and the community at large with tools to first identify victims and then to improve access to and delivery of services to victims of sex trafficking. This program will discuss how first responders can quickly and efficiently identify victims and then cover best practices in prevention, identification and provision of comprehensive services to victims of human trafficking. The role of prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges in securing comprehensive services, preparing and protecting victim witnesses, and in avoiding re-victimization will be discussed.
