Code of conduct for workshop participants

Every year AAA Fabre Vieux organise a number of interdisciplinary workshops; we try to lend these workshops an intercultural character by attracting participants from various countries and different cultural backgrounds. In order for the workshops to succeed and for the participants to have a pleasant stay in a fine atmosphere on Fabre Vieux, we believe it is necessary and helpful to state an agreement conveying participants’ code of conduct and responsibilities.

Our intention in this code of conduct is a positive one: observing the limits and framework of this code will enable the participants to enhance the unique experience of these workshops and to fully enjoy them, both as individuals and as group members.

Code of conduct

In communicating with other workshop participants, common rules of courtesy and decency must be observed. In view of the participants’ diverse cultural background and experience, such values as sincerity, respect and flexibility are highly appreciated. In order to fully participate in the workshop activities, energy, theatre and art discipline, full effort and cooperation are demanded; this implies that participants must observe the workshops’ starting times, and make and observe agreements with teachers and fellow-participants.

In order to fully participate in the workshop, it is also advisable to limit the use of alcohol to the occasional glass of beer or wine; the use of alcohol by minors is forbidden.

Any form of misconduct, annoyance or irresponsible behaviour may lead to denying participant’s admission to the workshops and premises of AAA Fabre Vieux. In case of minors being involved, parents/guardians will be informed by the host and hostess. Any extra financial costs will be on the participant’s, or his/ her parents/guardians account.

We would like to point out that France has a very severe and strict legislation as far as the use, of drugs, or even possessing the smallest amount of drugs, are concerned. In case of any participant committing a legal offence according to French law, especially in case of drug abuse or any criminal offence, the host and hostess will be bound by French legislation; they will accordingly inform parents/guardians. Any legal consequence will be to the account of the participant involved, or his/her legal representative.

Environment

Fabre Vieux is situated in a vulnerable rural area of exceptional scenic beauty. Therefore all participants are urgently requested:

  • not to disturb the local flora and fauna (with deer, hares, foxes and sometimes even wild boars);
  • to only dump the refuse on the intended sites;
  • to only use the available natural material for workshop purposes after consulting workshop leaders and host and hostess of Fabre Vieux;

May we remind you that lighting an open fire in this area can be extremely dangerous, especially during hot, dry summer weather; the authorities are likely to officially prohibit campfires during periods of extreme drought. We therefore urge you to only light campfires in the appropriate fireplace after consulting host and hostess and only with their cooperation.

The issues of smoking and having a barbecue can be agreed upon with host and hostess on the spot

We wish you a very pleasant stay at Fabre Vieux!

Maria van Bakelen - Artistic leader and owner of the property
