CELEBRATING WIDER SUCCESS & ACHIEVEMENT

Look out for our new achievement wall in the school foyer to celebrate the out of school achievements which your children attain. At our school assemblies, children are being encouraged to bring to school certificates, trophies etc to allow us to promote their achievements and celebrate that success as a whole school. Examples of such awards include, swimming badges, dance certificates, piano grade certificates etc.

Our first ever award winner is Mollie Currie from Primary 6 who participated in an international dance festival in Paris with her team gaining success. Well done Mollie! This was a wonderful experience and we are so proud of you!

Mollie’s story is documented on our new wall where you can watch our wall of stars grow as our children participate in a huge range of out of school experiences and competitions.

PARENT/GRANDPARENT PRIDE BOARD!

This parents’ evening, I am inviting parents and grandparents to contribute to our “ Parent Pride “ Board. Please use the pro-forma at the end of our newsletter to tell us about any significant events, achievements or milestones which your child has achieved over the last few months. A board will be placed in the ICT area for parents of P4-7 children to place their pride –post its on and similarly a board will be placed in the infant corridor for the parents/grandparents of P1-3 children to utilise.

Staff and pupils will look forward after parents’ night to reading and enjoying your comments.

PARENTS’ EVENINGS

The staff look forward to welcoming all parents /grandparents to the school this Thursday afternoon/ evening. The children have been working hard to prepare their classrooms for your visits by displaying their lovely work.

During the evening you will have the opportunity to view your child’s jotter work and class work and to ask any relevant questions about your child’s progress. Please use the pro-forma (attached again at the end of the newsletter) to advise us of any specific enquiries you may have. In that way, we can be fully prepared and have all the relevant information to hand for you.

If you have any concerns around pastoral issues, please discuss this with your child’s teacher in the first place. Both myself and Ms Murphy will be available throughout the evening to ensure our evening runs smoothly and are happy to arrange meetings with any parents/carers if requested.

Please contact Mrs Duffy at the school should you wish to arrange a specific time.

I look forward to meeting all parents this Thursday and to an enjoyable, informative and productive evening for all involved.

Feedback sheets will be issued to you by all class teachers. A return box and envelopes will be situated in the school foyer so that you may return your forms confidentially.

On arrival at the school, please utilise the school’s sign in and out forms which we require to maintain for Fire Safety Procedures.

The Book Fayre will be available on the evening in the Music Room should you wish to purchase a new book for your child. Children will have had the opportunity to view the books beforehand with their teacher.

IN SCHOOL CURRICULAR EVENTS FOR SPORT

Soccer / Soccer 4 will continue with Primary 4 in November for another 4 week block.
S6 Sports Leaders
/ We will be joined this term by two 6th year Sport Leader students fom Holyrood Secondary School who will set up equipment, work with small groups of pupils, taking them through warm ups etc and assist classes in PE lesson.

Swimming / The first block of Swimming Lessons will commence on Tuesday 21st November for Primary 6 at Castlemilk Swimming Pool – Please return all Swimming Consent Forms to the school office.
Assistance needed to supervise children from 12.30 pm until 2.00 pm Please contact school office if available.

Sports leaders Interviews / Our active school co-ordinator Alan, in collaboration with Mrs Carrigan held interviews to elect our P6 and P7 sports leaders. The children prepared so well and, if elected, will lead and organise Sports/Playground activities this year.
P7 interviews have been completed. Congratulations to the
following pupils for their work in preparing for interview and for taking on this task:
Aliyah Moti, Reece Wilson, Aodan Brannigan, Ollie Hodgkiss and Anton Sweeney.
P6 Interviews are in the process of being completed due to some children being absent on interview date. We have announced 2 places for P6 currently and the final place will be announced after our last interview next week.
Congratulations to Vanessa Venes and Kate Seenen on being elected
Cycling Proficiency P6
/ P6 children have started their Cycling proficiency training on Tuesday afternoons. Our thanks to Mr Fisher for participating in training and for leading this event. Special appreciation to both Mr Venes and Mr Jenkins for giving up their valuable time on Tuesday afternoons to assist and to support the children.

School chaplain-Father Michael
/ Father will meet with the school Liturgy group on Tuesday 13th November for their second meeting. The group have agreed their aims for this session and are currently working hard to re –model the school values wall and to organise our Inter-Faith Open afternoon.
A copy of the Liturgy Groups Targets for the session will be e mailed to all parents this week.
All Saints Day Mass 1st November / Our appreciation to Mr Fisher and the children of Primary 5 for leading the school in a lovely liturgical celebration to celebrate this special feast day.
Father Michael Class visits
/ The liturgy group have organised visits from Father Michael to al upper school classes this term.
Father will visit P7, P6 and P5 in November with P4 receiving a visit in December.
Children will choose a topic related to their
annual planner for Religious education and will also prepare questions for Father Michael on a topic of their
choice.
INTER _- FAITH OPEN AFTERNOON / THURSDAY 23rd NOVEMBER 1.15-2.45pm
To celebrate our inter-faith studies last term, we are hosting an inter-faith open afternoon where you can view the work our children have completed on their studies of Islam, Judaism and of our own faith. Children from each class P4-7 will be on hand to discuss their work and there will be some lovely hospitality offered to all visitors. We have invited our chaplain along with representatives of other faith group leaders.
Please come along and join us- you are most welcome!

VALUES ASSEMBLIES

All classes will present a short assembly for pupils, staff and for their own parents and guardians, focussing on one of our school values.

Parents from the allocated class are warmly invited to join us and to enjoy some hospitality after assembly.

PUPIL VOICE GROUPS

Elections have now been completed and announcements were held at this week’s assembly to welcome our class representatives this year to our ‘Pupil Voice’ groups. By the end of Term 1, all groups will have held their first meeting and set out their

aims for the session. This week, the targets for each group will be e-mailed to all parents. We are in the process of updating our school website and thereafter all Pupil Voice group minutes will be published on the school website.

All of the above groups will be led and supported by a member of the teaching staff.

PLAYGROUND

As the autumnal weather is drawing close can all pupils bring a suitable jacket for rain and colder days in order to maximise their outdoor playtime. Please encourage your child to bring a healthy snack to school to help us promote healthy eating.

DAILY MILE

All of our children are participating in the Daily Mile challenge this term on the 3 days when they do not have a one hour PE session. We are aiming to encourage good habits and to increase fitness levels. We will seek the views of Parents on the running of this programme at our November Parents’ event.

PAIRED READING

Thanks to all volunteers who have volunteered to assist with this session’s paired reading programme. This commenced week beginning 9th October 2017 and the children involved really look forward to reading with their supporter.

FIRST MINISTER’S READING CHALLEGE.

Once again, Our First Minister has shown a commitment to encouraging Literacy skills for all young people in P3-7 in Scottish schools by launching the second year of “The First Minister’s Reading Challenge”. This will be launched in school after the October holiday. Look out for our new colourful display outside the library and watch it grow.
