A warm welcome to new member Mark Greenland.

Indian Meal

Phoenix Striders go for a Curry

Dear all,

Unfortunately I have had to rearrange the venue for our annual Indian meal on 31st January.

The new venue is The Voujon Restaurant which is located on the Orsett Cock Roundabout just off the A13 and the table is provisionally booked for 19.30.

The meal would start with poppadoms and chutneys, followed by a choice of starters, a main meal and a side dish, rice and bread are also included. The cost for this is £25 per head including a tip. The restaurant is waiter service and they do have a bar area where you can buy your drinks separately.

I need to pay a deposit to secure the booking so need numbers ASAP. A £10 deposit is required by Friday 9th January. Could you all please put your deposit in a sealed envelope with names on.

Hope you can make what is sure to be another enjoyable Phoenix Striders get together.

Judy will take your money if Andrea is not around

**Wednesday 3rd December. A big ‘Thank You’ to Nicola M for organising a great ‘Christmas’ evening at Friern Manor. Many PS members joined a large crowd for a Christmas meal in a quite splendid venue. Excellent food, plenty of drink and, of course, the best company!!

Members out and about at Races

**Saturday 29th December was the day of the Essex Cross Country Vets Championship and four of our women members took part. First runner came in at 36mins 00secs. Ruth was first PS in 53mins 53secs, she was followed by Kristina 56:08, Nicola M 58:58 and Beryl 61:00. Last runner crossed the line in 71:32. The team position was 14th out of 16. Well done girls.

**Saturday 6th December. The third of the Essex Cross Country League took place at Braintree. In ideal running weather overhead, although rather ‘sticky’ underfoot PS senior ladies finished 11th out of 19 and the vets 10th out of 18. The senior men were 14th out of 19 and the vets 10th out of 18. Now for more details, 1st lady crossed the line in 20mins 01secs. Danielle Hu and Debbie S finished in quick succession in 28:55 and 28:58 respectively. They were followed by Ruth 29:23, Nicola M 31:04, Beryl 31:33, Debra P 32:11 and Roma 32:37. The men’s, longer, race was won in 23mins 46secs. Carl crossed the line first for PS in 31:08, he was followed by Chris 33:38, Eddie 39:10, Simon 40:48 and Gwyn 48:38. Excellent running folks, well done.

**Sunday 14th December Simon J wrote:- just a short note, on the Southend 5 mile reindeer run I did,I ran it in 40 minutes and 31 seconds. Well done Simon, not easy in a reindeer suit!!

**Friday 26th December. Really good weather for running this annual Boxing Day, ‘Crown to Crown’ 5K run. Although this is on bridleways the surfaces are very muddy in places making for, sometimes, very difficult conditions underfoot. With over 300 participants there were some tricky patches where runners going out were meeting fast runners coming back!! The winner finished in 17mins 06secs. Of the 20 PS members Ruth crossed the line first in 22:09, she was followed by John B 23:51, Debbie S 27:15 with Eddie hot on her heels in 27:17, then Nicola H and Dave in 28:48 and 28:50 respectively. Next came Nicola M 29:11, Katie H 29:29, Joy 29:44, Natalie 30:58, Helen T 31:09, Adele 31:56, Thelma and Laura in 33:15 and 33:16 respectively. They were followed by Marie P 35:24, Linda T 35:36, Sue V 36:13 and Rhys 38:27, then Terry and Kalli 41:39. Last runner 44:39. Well done guys, can’t help feeling some were suffering from an over dose of over indulgence!!!!! The sensible ones stood and watched!!!

LONDON MARATHON

Water Station Helpers needed on Sunday 26th April very early!!!! This is your chance to give something back (in running terms), have really good fun and a first class view of the elite runners and wheelchair athletes. We help ‘Dagenham 88’ club on the 4mile water station which, although an early start, means you have the rest of the day to get into London and see the race at various stages, or go home and back to bed!! You will need a lift into Dagenham where a bus will take us to the water station in Charlton. If you don’t want to go on into London after the ‘clear up’ the bus will take you back to Dagenham and your car. If you are interested please contact me ASAP. I will need ‘definites’ nearer the time as we have to send names, addresses and telephone numbers to the organisers for insurance purposes.

And finally ‘Birthday Wishes’for January to Julie A, Fiona, Amanda Cl, Emma C, David D, Jumana, Carol E, Natalie G, Shelby, Julie H, Martin H, Claire K, Barry, Adele, Melanie W, Andrew W and me!!!
