Call for Proposals: NJ APSE invites you to submit a proposal to present a workshop at the Facing the Future XIX Conference. This annual conference highlights best practices in supporting people with all types of disabilities in career planning, customized employment, and transition from school to work.

Goal: This conference establishes 12 ninety minute workshops that are designed to educate, inspire, and acknowledge the work of professionals in supported (or customized) employment and transition from school to work.

NJ APSE Mission: NJ APSE is an association committed to improving equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities in New Jersey through education and advocacy.

Audience: Supported Employment professionals, including supervisors, administrators, employment specialists, job developers, representatives from government agencies, teachers, and transition coordinators are the primary audience for the conference. People with disabilities and family members also may attend.

Suggested Topics: Presentations should be interactive and may address, but are not limited to the following topics:

·  Job Development

·  Support strategies, (e.g., job coaching, instructional strategies, counseling, natural supports, therapeutic interactions, positive behavioral supports, drug and alcohol treatment, stress reduction, etc.)

·  Transition from School to Work (e.g., best practices, collaboration, etc.)

·  Family and individual perspectives

·  Management (e.g., effective communication, team strengthening, motivating staff, maintaining quality assurance, best practices, social media, marketing, 21st century business models, etc.)

·  Legislative Issues (e.g., effective advocacy, current issues, etc.)

·  New models of support, including self-directed services or self-employment

·  Support for specific populations (e.g., TANF, criminal offenders, mental health, dual diagnoses of mental health and intellectual or developmental disability)

·  Autism related supports (e.g., communication, sensory)

·  Hot topics and Best Practices

Review Criteria:

·  Relevance to supported employment or transition from school to work.

·  Extent to which the proposal complements the mission of NJ APSE and the goals of the conference.

·  Appeal to the target audience.

·  Originality

·  Level of interaction with the audience, new formats are encouraged (e.g., World Café)

Notification of Acceptance: All proposals will be reviewed by the NJ APSE Conference Committee as they are received. Applicants will be notified of acceptance of their proposal no later than November 30, 2010.

*Please note: The lead presenter will receive a complimentary registration which is valid on the day of their presentation. Any additional co-presenters will be required to pay the early bird registration fee if they plan to stay for lunch and/or attend

other workshops on the day of the presentation. Co-presenters arriving only to participate in their presentation are not required to pay a registration fee.
