Welcome to the Tomb of the Lost Queen Walkthrough. If it’s your first time to play any Nancy Drew game, then start on Amateur sleuth/Junior Detective because the puzzles are easier. However, if it’s not your first Nancy Drew game, choose whatever difficulty you want. All spoilers that appear in this walkthrough will be in red, italicized, and have the word “spoiler” in front of them.

A Sandy Entrance

Nancy is in Egypt to job shadow Professor Jon Boyle, who’s in charge of excavating a site that might lead to the Lost Queen, Nefertari.

When Nancy arrives at the campsite, a sandstorm hits it. Then, on the right, there’s a lightning strike and Professor Boyle, the dig crew leader, is hit. Nancy automatically goes into the tent and sees Boyle on the ground unconscious. He goes to the hospital and most of the team leaves the site because of the curse placed on the tomb. Soon, Nancy’s talking on the phone with Boyle and he says that he was attacked from behind. It wasn’t from the lightning strike Nancy saw earlier. Talk to him until Nancy doesn’t have anything else to say.

Then go into the main tent and look around. Look at the game in the middle of the room. Then go to Nancy’s bunk and take the hieroglyph dictionary and the practice book. Look through the other glyph book and the book on Nancy’s nightstand that’s by Professor Beatrice Hotchkiss. Then look at the middle bunk on Nancy’s right. It’s empty, so head over to the end bunk. This is Dr. Abdullah Bakhoum’s bunk. Try look at the trunk, but Lily, who has the middle bunk on Nancy’s left, won’t let Nancy. Then look at the empty bunk on Nancy’s left. Then try looking at Boyle’s bunk that’s on the end farthest from the door. Lily will stop Nancy from looking at it and start talking to her. She’ll tell Nancy that she’s in charge since Boyle’s gone. Tell her that that’s fine with Nancy and that Boyle wants Nancy to look through his stuff. Lily won’t be completely fine with the fact that Nancy will be going through people’s stuff, but she’ll let Nancy look through Boyle’s—and only Boyle’s. Head back to Boyle’s trunk and take the lighter. Look through the Franklin Ross’s recommendation to Boyle about Nancy. Then go to Boyle’s nightstand and look through his notes. It seems like some of the notes on the last page are missing.

Exit the main tent and head over to the antiquities tent, the smaller one closer to the ginormous hole in the ground that’s the entrance and stairs to the temple. Look to the left and take the site map, the flashlight, the bird tile, and the art book on the table. Look at the piece of rock with glyphs on it. Use the glyph dictionary to translate the rock. Read the notes to the right of the water bottle. Apparently Sonny Joon was working at the campsite. Back away and move to the shelving unit. Look at the book on the unit and notice that it has a grid of the site. Then go the table on the right. Look at the list of amulets that were found by the team. Pick up the axe and the brush in the middle of the table. Then go look at the amulet pieces behind the water bottles. Put the pieces back together to make a cat. When Nancy’s done, there will be a piece missing. Take a look at the tag on the bottom left corner of the mat. It says N13E2. Look at the site grid again notice that it’s in the middle tunnel (tunnel 2) in the right corner that’s farthest from the entrance.

Head over to the tomb and enter into the main area. Look at the workspace and take the shovel. Turn around and talk to Abdullah, the local archeologist. He claims that this is his site. Talk to him until Nancy has nothing else to say. Then climb the ladder and use the glyph dictionary to translate the glyphs. Then enter tunnel 2 and go to the place where the other cat amulet pieces were found. Use the brush on the pile of sand in the corner and discover the missing piece. Look at the bird mural and use the pick axe to get the second bird tile loose. Go back to the antiquities tent and place the missing piece where it belongs on the amulet. Grab the amulet and keep it in Nancy’s inventory.

The Tomb

Go back into the tomb and go into tunnel 3, the one on the right. In the first part of the corridor, look at the scarab puzzle on Nancy’s left. The red scarab tile is missing. Back away from the puzzle and look at the glyphs on the wall that’s to the right of the door Nancy’s looking at. The glyphs can’t be translated with Nancy’s dictionary. She’ll have to translate this herself. Use the context as hints to put letters in the right places. Also, start with small, repeating words with common words (i.e. the, and).

Spoiler:

Come ye hither gods in the train of Horus
And let the steps ascend
We are the four of Horus
I am the air that sweeps up the Nile
I am the hunter who faces to greet the new day
I am Imsety protector of the South
I am the cry that soars towards the setting sun
Together we the gods in the train of Horus guard the corners.

Nancy needs to learn more about Horus and the four gods in his train. Go to the end of the tunnel and look to the puzzle on the left. The goal is to get a message in the blue area at the bottom. The tiles are only revealed when there is only one tile in each of the columns above. Each of the blocks slides left and right. When Nancy’s done, it should look like this:

Nancy will see a panel open and a sealed door appear when she completes the puzzle. Head back to the puzzle and translate it using Nancy’s dictionary. There’s a queen buried in the tomb. Break the seal and go through the door and use the flashlight to see. Suddenly Lily appears and starts looking around. Then Abdullah and two other people appear and start doing the same. Abdullah finds some glyphs near the door, says it’s the curse and wants to examine it. But Nancy’s flashlight goes out and Abdullah tells everyone to leave the room.

More Hieroglyphs and the Scarab Puzzle

Nancy’s back in the main tent. Lily and Abdullah went to back to the places where they will normally be found. Talk to Lilly about the curse. Then head outside and talk to Dylan Carter, a British tour guide. He’s not technically supposed to be here, but no one’s bothering to kick him out. Get the pantheon list from him. Go to the water tank and pick up the oil that’s next to it. Go into the antiquities tent and put the flashlight back into the holder Nancy got it from. The wires behind it will spark and short circuit. Nancy will need to find a different light source to look into the tomb.

Head into the tomb and go to the end of tunnel 2. Talk to Jamila, an Egyptian who believes that the aliens built the pyramids. She also mentions Sonny Joon, the doodler and alien “expert.” Jamila got hooked into aliens when she took Sonny’s “Are You Alien or Ale-out” course. Nancy says that she’s seen some of his stuff (mostly doodles), but has never met him. When Nancy’s done talking to Jamila, go to the place where she found the missing piece to the cat amulet. Pick up the red scarab tile.

Go back to the main part of the tomb and talk to Abdullah. Save the question about Jamila for last. When Nancy asks about what Abdullah thinks about Jamila, he says that he doesn’t like her and leaves the room and tries to kick her out of the site. While they’re arguing, look at the glyphs that Abdullah has been looking at. Use the glyph dictionary to translate some of the message. However, not all of it’s translated. Nancy has to translate that part herself. Translate the glyphs like Nancy did with the other glyphs. Look for similarities and start with small words.

Spoiler: Here’s the answer. “This is the tomb of Nefertari.”

Is it possible that this is the real tomb of Nefertari?

Go to the Scarab puzzle in tunnel 3. Nancy will automatically place the red scarab tile on the board. She’ll also mention that the color might have something to do with solving the puzzle. The goal of the puzzle is to put the tiles on the spaces that have the corresponding color. The hardest part is knowing which one to do first. Pick the one that will be the hardest to get to its space. When Nancy’s finished, another puzzle will open up on the other side of the hallway. First Nancy needs to find the pieces and then put them in the right place.

Spoiler: Move the tiles in this order. Amateur sleuth: Red, Green, Black, White. Master sleuth: Red, Black, White, Green.

Let There Be Light... and Glyphs?

Since Nancy’s right next to the tomb, enter it and then turn around. Go to the lamp and put in the oil and then light it using Boyle’s lighter. Nancy mentions that she needs to light the entire room… with one lamp. She immediately looks at the mirrors that she can see through the hole behind the lamp. The goal is to get the light from the source to the other side of the room of mirrors. It should look something like this when it’s done:

(Photo from TMB’s walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Now the entire tomb is lit up. Look at the curse above the lamp. Nancy needs to translate it—her dictionary won’t help her here. Solve these glyphs like the other two glyphs that Nancy translated. When she reads the translation, she won’t be happy because the curse is on her. She was the one who broke the seal.

Spoiler: Here’s the translation. “As for the one who broke the seal agonies of death await you.”

Turn around to the sarcophagus and try to lift the lid. It’s too heavy for Nancy to lift by herself. But then she hears a crash that came from the tomb’s entrance. Turn around and then left. Pick up the spears and look at the impression in the wall. Something’s missing from it. Then go to the corner with the box in it—the one across from the lamp. Open the box up and each of the urns. Grab each of the coins that come out of the urns. Go to the main entrance of the tomb and see that the scaffolding has fallen down around Abdullah. Talk to Abdullah about the scaffolding, then get the plank from the fallen scaffolding and go back to the sarcophagus. Use the plank and the spears to open the sarcophagus’ lid. There’s a coffin inside, which is locked. The only way to unlock it is by solving the glyphs and the puzzle on the bottom. Solve the glyphs first, just like Nancy did with the other glyphs.

Spoiler:

The procession of gods
Begins the reveal
Seek them out
Under the protection
of the heavens

The bottom puzzle is solved only if Nancy knows where to place the gods. She needs to figure out where the “heavens” are in order to know which god goes where.

The Sons of Horus and Placement of the Gods

Leave the tomb and look at the puzzle on the left, the one that the scarab puzzle opened. Nancy now has the “Sons of Horus”—the four tokens—to fill the circles. Put the tokens in their proper places. The glyphs about the Sons of Horus and Dylan’s chart will help Nancy figure out where each token belongs. Nancy will hear a click when the tokens are in the right place. Here’s where they should be when Nancy’s done:

(Photo from TMB’s Walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Now the tokens turn in their spots. Turn one of them and then go back to the main room of the tomb. The columns moves, but where should they lead? Talk to Abdullah about the columns. He’ll be amazed that they can do that. Go back to the token puzzle and reset it. Notice the picture in the middle, the one with the columns. It looks like Nancy needs to make a staircase, the lowest one being no higher than the scaffolding. Turn the tokens until Nancy has the columns in the positions in the picture. Nancy can go between the token puzzle and the main tomb room as long as she needs to.

Spoiler: Here’s one solution. Falcon, Falcon, Falcon, Baboon, Human.

When Nancy done, climb up the scaffolding and then jump the columns. Translate the glyphs over the door and grab the journal notes that are on the floor. It’s from the earlier expedition—the one that searched the site sixty years ago. Go to the end of the tunnel and look at the mural. This is the picture that shows Nancy where to place the gods in the puzzle on the coffin in the tomb. Write down where each one is and their positions. Then turn around and head back to the entrance of the tunnel. Lily and Abdullah are arguing about something. When they’re done, head back down to the entryway and talk to Abdullah about the argument. Then talk to Lily about it. She’ll ask Nancy to sort the amulets in the antiquities tent. Do that later.

Go to the coffin and position the gods where they belong. Reference Dylan’s chart if necessary. It should look like this when it’s done:

Master Sleuth:

The coffin opens up to reveal another, smaller coffin with another hieroglyph and another puzzle. Like the bigger coffin, the hieroglyph will give a hint to the puzzle beneath it.

Amulets and the Second Coffin

Translate the glyphs on the coffin. It should be getting easier as it goes, since Nancy’s getting more used to it. Then look at the puzzle. Nancy needs to find out who the sons and daughters were of Nefertari.

Spoiler:

Seven treasures of her making
Four to lead the people
Three to follow her path
Divided by duty old preceding young
Recall them here and reach within

Exit the tomb and go to the antiquities tent. Look inside the wooden box that’s on the right table. It’s where Lily wants Nancy to sort the amulets. Nancy should know mostly where each of the amulets go by now because of the reading she’s done. If she needs help, look at Dylan’s list. Here’s what it should look like at the end:

(Photo from TMB’s Walkthrough on Nancydrewmania.com)

Nancy will notice that one of the amulets, the jackal, is missing. She’ll also notice the tear in the back of the tent that’s behind the tie hanging from the shelf. Head outside and go towards the boxes that are near the antiquities tent. Look at the tear and then dig through one of the crates using the shovel and discover a black market note. Then go to the water tank and notice that the tank has been cut by a metal object and is now empty. Someone did it on purpose. Talk to Dylan and see if he saw anyone doing that. Then go talk to Lily about everything that Nancy can.

Call Professor Hotchkiss because she’ll know the names of Nefertari’s children. Ask her to name the children in order of birth. Hotchkiss will separate them by gender automatically. When Nancy asks about the girls, Hotchkiss will ask Nancy for some information about the tomb. She’ll ask which god is above the doors in the main room of the tomb (the entryway/main chamber). The answer is Ma’at. When Nancy’s done talking to Hotchkiss, go back to the coffin. Using the names Hotchkiss gave Nancy, Boyle’s notes, Dylan’s chart, and the journal entry Nancy found to help put the symbols in the right places.
