A RESOLUTION honoring the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club of Paducah.
WHEREAS, in 1951 the Oscar Cross Boys & Girls Club was formed to provide programs and services to the youth and families of the youth of Paducah and McCracken County, Kentucky, geared to develop citizenship skills and leadership skills through character development; and
WHEREAS, the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club members of the Oscar Cross Boys & Girls Club took the initiative and created the highly successful Job Shadowing Project under the leadership of the club's advisor Officer Shawn Maxie of the Paducah Police Department; and
WHEREAS, in March, 2002, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America recognized Officer Shawn Maxie and the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club for their superlative program at the National Teen Supreme Conference in Anaheim, California, by presenting them with the 2001 National Award for Education and Career Exploration; and
WHEREAS, the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club won the honor in a field of more than 2,000 competing clubs; and
WHEREAS, the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club is composed of the following outstanding youths of McCracken County: Armand Cooper, Charletha Davis, Jameison Frazier, Amanda Jennings, LaToya Johnson, Ashley Keeling, Shamika Lassiter, Nathaniel Moore, Latevia Priddy, Davida Travis, Lauren Venable, Tony Ware, and Tamara Williams;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby honor the members of the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club for their outstanding achievement of securing the 2001 National Award for Education and Career Exploration through their dedication and hard work and holds these fine young Kentuckians up as an excellent example to all.
Section 2. The Senate does hereby honor and thank Officer Shawn Maxie and all the mentors and individuals involved in the programs for their tireless efforts on behalf of and involvement with the Magna Cum Laude Keystone Club and the Oscar Cross Boys & Girls Club, for it recognizes that such investments yield dividends to not only individuals, but those of the entirety of the Commonwealth.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit 15 copies of this Resolution to Mr. Clarence Nunn, Oscar Cross Boys & Girls Club of Paducah, 1125 Jackson Street, Paducah, Kentucky 42003.
