A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Paul C. Van Booven.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Paul C. Van Booven, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Paul C. Van Booven was born on January 2, 1951, a native of Jackson, Tennessee, and longtime resident of Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Paul C. Van Booven was the loving son of Floyd and Ruth Van Booven of Hopkinsville; he was the loving brother of Peter Van Booven of Hopkinsville; Caroline Ballard of Orlando, Florida; and Rebekah Tribiesh of Morago, California; he was the loving uncle of several nieces and nephews; and he was the loving partner and friend of Geoff Malloy of Lexington; and
WHEREAS, Paul C. Van Booven earned his bachelor's degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law, where he was managing editor of the Kentucky Law Journal; and
WHEREAS, Paul C. Van Booven served successively as assistant dean and associate dean of the University of Kentucky College of Law from 1976 to 1989; in 1989, he began working in the legal counsel's office, and in 2002, he was named general counsel; and during his tenure with the University of Kentucky, he was a close adviser to past president Charles T. Wethington Jr., and current president Lee T. Todd Jr.; and
WHEREAS, when we remember Paul C. Van Booven, we are reminded that he demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the University of Kentucky; he had a brilliant mind, and an extraordinary talent for true wisdom; he unselfishly shared his knowledge with his fellow peers, and he was an inspiration to all who had the good fortune of knowing him; and
WHEREAS, the passing of Paul C. Van Booven has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Paul C. Van Booven, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Paul C. Van Booven brought to the University of Kentucky and the Commonwealth of Kentucky will never be forgotten, and his influence will continue through all the lives he touched.
Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Paul C. Van Booven.
Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Family of Paul C. Van Booven, 352 South Mill Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508.
