A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Lawrence Leroy Potts.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Lawrence Leroy Potts.

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was born on November 19, 1915, a native son of the Commonwealth and a longtime resident of Crestwood, Kentucky, and traversed these earthly bounds on August 14, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was a landscape nurseryman and he established Crestwood Nurseries after retiring from Minish and Potts, Llc; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was responsible for many landscape projects including the Belvedere, the Watterson Expressway, the Kentucky Horse Park, and Indiana University; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts provided nursery services for events at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was honored at the White House in 1977 by Mrs. Jimmy Carter for his significant environmental contributions; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was a charter member of the South Oldham Lions Club, the Kentucky Nurserymen's Association, and the Louisville Nurserymen's Association; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was a World War II veteran serving in England, France, Ireland, and Germany and as a member of the 1st Army his unit was involved with the reinforcements on Omaha Beach; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Katherine "Kate" Potts; and

WHEREAS, Lawrence Leroy Potts was the beloved father of Rosemary Kirkwood and grandfather of Chase Kirkwood; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Lawrence Leroy Potts has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Lawrence Leroy Potts and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. The Senate recognizes that Lawrence Leroy Potts made a lasting contribution to the beautiful scenery of our great Commonwealth through his landscape work, and the members further acknowledge and honor Mr. Potts for his brave service to this nation during a time of war.

Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lawrence Leroy Potts.
