A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Herbert Dean Ramey.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Herbert Dean Ramey, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Herbert Dean Ramey was born on May 12, 1941, a native of Rowan County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on March 12, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Dean Ramey was the loving son of the late Bud Robinson and Ella Mae Swim Ramey; he was the devoted husband of Judy Gay Parker Ramey; he was the loving father of 2 daughters, Darinda June Ramey of Morehead, and Vonda Kay Ramey Melton of Lexington; he was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Emma Caroline Marriner and Landon Parker Melton; he was the loving brother of two sisters, Norma Jean Kincaid of Mount Sterling, and Phyllis Anne Hubbard of Morehead; and he was the loving brother of three brothers, David Gene Ramey of Green Castle, Indiana, Dr. Carl Victor Ramey of Morehead, and Gary Garland Ramey of Salt Lick; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Dean Ramey was an esteemed member of the Rowan County community where he graduated from Rowan County High School, and he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees and Rank 1 from Morehead State University; he was a retired teacher, and he had been a physical education teacher at Tilden Hogge and Farmers elementary schools, a principal at Clearfield Elementary School, an assistant principal at Rowan County High School, and he was the first principal at Rowan County Middle School; he designed and implemented the middle school program concept in Rowan County, and he was a lifelong member of the Kentucky Middle School Association where he served on its board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Dean Ramey was an active and involved citizen; he was a community leader, and assisted in organizing the Cave Run Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and he served on the Ducks Unlimited Committee from 1984 to 2001; he was a former president of Morehead/Rowan County Jaycees and he served as director of the 16th Regional Basketball Tournament for fifteen years; he was a Mason and Shriner, and a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654; Morehead Chapter, Royal Arch Masons No. 168; Morehead Council, Royal and Select Masters No. 45; Morehead Commandery, Knights Templars No. 53; and he was a member of the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Herbert Dean Ramey has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Herbert Dean Ramey, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Herbert Dean Ramey.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Judy Gay Parker Ramey, 2385 Ky. 801 North, Morehead, Kentucky 40351.
