A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Harry David Varner.

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner was a native son of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, born in Harrison County and a resident of the city of Cynthiana; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner was eminently active in his community, serving on the board of directors of the Harrison County Water Association, Harrison County Fire District, and the Kentucky Farm Bureau; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner gave of his time to the Salvation Army and the Benson United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities, including as a Sunday school teacher; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner shaped the lives of the youth of Harrison County, where he taught and served as school counselor; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner was also involved in the administration of the Harrison County Schools System and the Nicholas County Schools System, in both of which he served as the Director of Pupil Personnel; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner worked in the fields of Harrison County for his entire life as a farmer; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner was the loving and beloved husband of Fernita Copes Varner; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner was the loving and beloved father of Jenny Lynn Hatter and father-in-law of Harland Hatter; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner was the loving and beloved brother of Johnnie B. Varner; and

WHEREAS, Harry David Varner departed this life on January 7, 2006;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Harry David Varner on the occasion of their loss.

Section 2. The Senate furthermore affirms that Harry David Varner was a vital citizen of Harrison County and of Cynthiana, his residence, and that his good nature and service to the youth and adults of his community will resonate for years to come.

Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Harry David Varner.

Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit three copies of this Resolution to Mrs. Fernita Copes Varner, 458 Wagoners Chapel Road, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031.
