A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Daniel H. Ruckriegel, Sr.

WHEREAS, Daniel H. Ruckriegel, Sr. was born in Jeffersontown on November 5, 1941, and departed this earthly life on December 22, 2011, leaving behind family, friends, and community that mourn his loss; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ruckriegel was the loving husband of Paulette Harpring Ruckriegel; beloved father to Daniel (Roxie) Ruckriegel, Jr., David (Sheila) Ruckriegel, Debbie (Keith) Hendrick, and step-daughter Lauren Harpring; brothers, Charles (Beverly) Ruckriegel, Jim (Karen) Ruckriegel, and Tom (Linda) Ruckriegel; sisters Elizabeth Berger, Alice (David) Hortenberry, Millie Boss, and Dorothy (Doug) Walker; six grandchildren; and many other family members who loved him dearly; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ruckriegel was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary "Suggie" Ruckriegel, and brothers Bobby Joe Ruckriegel and Mike Ruckriegel; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ruckriegel founded Ruckriegel Electric Company, and built it into the family business it is today; and

WHEREAS, while working as owner of Ruckriegel Electric, Mr. Ruckriegel answered the call to volunteer, serving as Captain in the Jeffersontown Volunteer Fire Department, mentoring many fellow firefighters and their families; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ruckriegel diligently fought for the betterment of his city, region, and Commonwealth by serving with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and the Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency. He was also President of the Kentucky League of Cities from October 1999 to September 2000; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ruckriegel tirelessly served his community as city councilman and as Mayor of Jeffersontown for nearly two decades, devoting his efforts to children’s needs, youth sports and athletics, seniors, and a better quality of civic life for the citizens of his community;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, express their profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Daniel H. Ruckriegel, Sr., and extend to his family, friends, and community their most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Daniel H. Ruckriegel, Sr.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit six copies of this Resolution to Senator Julie Denton for delivery to the family.
