A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Daniel Frank Massie.
With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Daniel Frank Massie, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, Daniel Frank Massie was born on March 27, 1946, a native of Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 29, 2001; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Frank Massie was the adored son of the late Lottie Robinson Massie and John Daniel Frank Massie; he was the devoted husband and soul mate of Tai Wing Wong Massie; he was the loving brother of a sister, Vivian Shipp, Hopkinsville; and the loving uncle of two nephews, Carlos Hicks, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Vincent Hicks, Mexico City, New Mexico; and a niece, Charlotte Hicks, New Orleans, Louisiana; he was the loving nephew of two aunts, Gladys Branaugh and Sarah Cruce, both of Louisville; and he was the proud Godfather of Diepiriye Kuku, Richard Reynolds, Ahmad Reynolds, and Daneisha Perkins; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Frank Massie graduated from Atticus High School in Hopkinsville; he attended Kentucky State University, Fisk University, and Southern Illinois University, and he earned a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Louisville Law School in 1975; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Frank Massie used his creative energies for developing economic independence through self-employment as a street vendor, stock trader, and other business ventures, and he was employed by the Metropolitan Sewer District legal department in Louisville for twenty-five years; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Frank Massie devoted his life to the struggle for freedom, justice, and equality of African Americans and other oppressed people; acting out of love, he joined several civil rights organizations, most often assuming elected positions of leadership; he was Chair of the Youth Chapter NAACP in Hopkinsville; Chair of Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee at Fisk University, and he was actively involved in the community as a member of education and arts boards; he was a devout Christian and a member of the Virginia Street Baptist Church in Hopkinsville; and
WHEREAS, all who knew and admired Daniel Frank Massie will grieve over their loss, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Daniel Frank Massie, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Daniel Frank Massie.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Tai Wing Wong Massie, 1609 Cypress Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40210.
