A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Virginia Graves Shively.
WHEREAS, Virginia Graves Shively, the daughter of the late W. Ernest Graves and Nelle Burdette Graves, was born in Marion County, Kentucky, on April 24, 1916. She married Eugene B. "Zimmie" Shively on June 11, 1940, and together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Graves Shively of Campbellsville, Kentucky, taught school at the Campbellsville Elementary School for 37 years before she retired. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers System and the Taylor County Retired Teachers Association. Additionally, she and her husband Eugene owned and operated Shively’s Jewelers for many years; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Graves Shively was involved in her community. She was a charter member of the David Allen Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Coterie Club and the Taylor County Hospital Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Graves Shively was a lifetime faithful member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Graves Shively was a loving wife and mother, who was devoted to her family. Preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. "Zimmie" Shively, she is survived by her son, Dr. Eugene H. (Susan) Shively, her two grandchildren, Dr. Victoria Shively Graham and Alexander G. Shively; her brother, James F. Graves; her niece and namesake, Virginia Graves of Clarkesville, Tennessee; and a host of other family, friends, and community; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Graves Shively went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2013, at the age of 96, and her passing is mourned by all her family and friends, who cherish wonderful memories of this remarkable woman, and by all those whose lives she touched;
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its deep sense of sorrow upon the passing of Virginia Graves Shively and extends to her family, friends, and community its sincere condolences.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of the late Virginia Graves Shively.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Carney for delivery to the family.
