TABLE 1– John11:17-27

Gospel, Fifth Sunday of Lent (A) – shortened

Sunday, April 6, 2014

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

When Jesus arrived in Bethany, he found that Lazarus

had already been in the tomb for four days.

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, only about two miles away.

And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary

to comfort them about their brother.

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming,

she went to meet him;

but Mary sat at home.

Martha said to Jesus,

“Lord, if you had been here,

my brother would not have died.

But even now I know that whatever you ask of God,

God will give you.”

Jesus said to her,

“Your brother will rise.”

Martha said to him,

“I know he will rise,

in the resurrection on the last day.”

Jesus told her,

“I am the resurrection and the life;

whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live,

and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.

Do you believe this?”

She said to him, “Yes, Lord.

I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God,

the one who is coming into the world.”

The Word of the Lord.

TABLE 2– Matthew1:18-25

Gospel, Fourth Sunday of Advent (A) – expanded

Sunday, December22, 2013

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about.

When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph,

but before they lived together,

she was found with child through the Holy Spirit.

Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,

yet unwilling to expose her to shame,

decided to divorce her quietly.

Such was his intention when, behold,

the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,

“Joseph, son of David,

do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.

For it is through the Holy Spirit

that this child has been conceived in her.

She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,

because he will save his people from their sins.”

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall name him Emmanuel,

which means “God is with us.”

When Joseph awoke,

he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him

and took his wife into his home.

He had no relations with her until she bore a son,

and he named him Jesus.

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.

TABLE 3 – Exodus 17:1-6

First Reading, Third Sunday of Lent (A) – expanded

Sunday, March 23, 2014

A reading from the book of Exodus

From the wilderness of Sin

the whole Israelite community journeyed by stages,

as the Lord directed, and encamped at Rephidim.

But there was no water for the people to drink,

and so they quarreled with Moses and said,

“Give us water to drink.”

Moses replied to them,

“Why do you quarrel with me?

Why do you put the Lord to a test?”

Here, then, in their thirst for water,

the people grumbled against Moses,

saying, “Why did you ever make us leave Egypt?

Was it just to have us die here of thirst

with our children and our livestock?”

So Moses cried out to the Lord,

“What shall I do with this people?

A little more and they will stone me!”

The Lord answered Moses,

“Go over there in front of the people,

along with some of the elders of Israel,

holding in your hand, as you go,

the staff with which you struck the river.

I will be standing there in front of you on the rock in Horeb.

Strike the rock,

and the water will flow from it for the people to drink.”

This Moses did, in the presence of the elders of Israel.

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.

TABLE 4– Luke12:22-34

Gospel, Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (C) – expanded

Sunday, August 11, 2013

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Therefore I tell you,

do not worry about your life and what you will eat,

or about your body and what you will wear.

For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.

Notice the ravens: they do not sow or reap;

they have neither storehouse nor barn, yet God feeds them.

How much more important are you than birds!

“Can any of you by worrying add a moment to your lifespan?

If even the smallest things are beyond your control,

why are you anxious about the rest?

Notice how the flowers grow. They do not toil or spin.

But I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor

was dressed like one of them.

If God so clothes the grass in the field

that grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow,

will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?

As for you, do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink,

and do not worry anymore.

All the nations of the world seek for these things,

and your Father knows that you need them.

Instead, seek his kingdom,

and these other things will be given you besides.

“Do not be afraid any longer, little flock,

for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.

Sell your belongings and give alms.

Provide money bags for yourselves that do not wear out,

an inexhaustible treasure in heaven

that no thief can reach nor moth destroy.

For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.

TABLE 5– Mark 5:25-34

Gospel, Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (B) – shortened

Sunday, July 1, 2012

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

When Jesus had crossed again in the boatto the other side,

he stayed close to the sea,

and a large crowd followed him and pressed upon him.

There was a woman afflicted with hemorrhages for twelve years.

She had suffered greatly at the hands of many doctors

and had spent all that she had.

Yet she was not helped but only grew worse.

She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd

and touched his cloak.

She said, "If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured."

Immediately her flow of blood dried up.

She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him,

turned around in the crowd and asked,

"Who has touched my clothes?"

But his disciples said to Jesus,

"You see how the crowd is pressing upon you,

and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'"

And he looked around to see who had done it.

The woman, realizing what had happened to her,

approached in fear and trembling.

She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth.

He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has saved you.

Go in peace and be cured of your affliction."

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.

TABLE 6 – Genesis 12:1-9

First Reading, Second Sunday of Lent (A) – expanded

Sunday, March 16, 2014

A reading from the book of Genesis

The Lord said to Abram:

“Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk

and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.

“I will make of you a great nation,

and I will bless you;

I will make your name great,

so that you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you

and curse those who curse you.

All the communities of the earth

shall find blessing in you.”

Abram went as the Lord directed him, and Lot went with him.

Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.

Abram took his wife Sarai, his brother’s son Lot,

all the possessions that they had accumulated,

and the persons they had acquired in Haran,

and they set out for the land of Canaan.

When they came to the land of Canaan,

Abram passed through the land

as far as the sacred place at Shechem, by the oak of Moreh.

The Canaanites were then in the land.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said:

“To your descendants I will give this land.”

So Abram built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him.

From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel,

pitching his tent with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east.

He built an altar there to the Lord and invoked the Lord by name.

Then Abram journeyed on by stages to the Negeb.

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.

TABLE 7 – Matthew 8:5-13

Gospel, Monday of the First Week of Advent (II) – expanded

Monday, December 2, 2013

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

When Jesus entered Capernaum,

a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying,

“Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”

He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”

The centurion said in reply,

“Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof;

only say the word and my servant will be healed.

For I too am a man subject to authority,

with soldiers subject to me.

And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes;

and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes;

and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him,

“Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.

I say to you, many will come from the east and the west,

and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob

at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven;

but the children of the kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness,

where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”

And Jesus said to the centurion,

“You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you.”

And at that very hour his servant was healed.

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.

TABLE 8 – Philippians 4:6-9

SecondReading, 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)

October 5, 2014

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians

Brothers and sisters:

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything,

by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,

make your requests known to God.

Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding

will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers and sisters,

whatever is true, whatever is honorable,

whatever is just, whatever is pure,

whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious,

if there is any excellence

and if there is anything worthy of praise,

think about these things.

Keep on doing what you have learned and received

and heard and seen in me.

Then the God of peace will be with you.

The Word of the Lord.

All:THANKS BE TO GOD.
