pre-engineered equipment enclosure

1Part 1 – General

1.01Section Includes

A.Pre-engineered metal equipment enclosures.

1.02Submittals

A.Product Data: Submit catalog data for:

1.Galvannealed sheet steel.
2.Powder coating.
3.Ventilation fans.
4.Acoustic insulation.

B.Shop Drawings: Submit fabrication and installation drawings indicating arrangement and dimensions of the enclosure, location of openings, ancillary products, and other features.

C.Manufacturer’s Samples: Submit 3” x 5” coupons with coating color selected by Owner.

D.Design Data: Submit anchorage calculations demonstrating conformance with local building code requirements.

E.Certificate of Proper Installation.

F.2-year Warranty.

1.03Quality Assurance

A.Qualifications: Manufacturer shall have a minimum of 15 years experience producing pre-engineered modular equipment enclosures of similar size and complexity as the products to be supplied under this project.

B.Certifications: Applicator of powder coatings shall be certified by the manufacturer to meet or exceed the minimum requirements specified herein.

C.Field Samples: Prepare field samples of powder coated materials for review by the Engineer. Approved samples shall establish standards by which the Work will be judged.

1.04Delivery, storage and handling

A.Packing and Shipping: Ship pre-fabricated equipment enclosure on a sturdy pallet, or on a custom-designed shipping crate that suits the enclosure configuration, or a crate that protects the enclosure from damage.

1.Design pallet or crate to allow lifting and movement with a forklift or crane.

B.Acceptance at Site: Enclosure shall be delivered to the site without scratches, dents or other damage.

C.Storage and Protection: Following acceptance at the site, Contractor shall handle, store and protect enclosure in a manner that prevents damage to the enclosure, components and accessories.

1.05confirMation of field Conditions

A.Field Measurement and Conditions: Contractor shall verify field conditions and shall provide site plan, field measurements, and photographs to manufacturer.

1.06warranty

A.Manufacturer guarantees workmanship for 2 years from date of receipt of the enclosure.

B.Manufacturer warrants finish against bubbling, cracking or failure of adhesion to metal substrate for one year from date of receipt of the enclosure.

2Part 2 – Products

2.01Manufacturers

A.Manufacturers: Pre-engineered equipment enclosure shall be manufactured by RPS Industries, Tualatin, Oregon.

2.02Materials

NOTE TO SPECIFIER:

Alternative materials are available for special conditions. Consult with RPS Engineering Department for information.

A.Enclosure: Galvannealed steel sheet conforming to ASTM A653.

1.Minimum Thicknesses:
a.Non-structural wall panels: 16 gauge.
b.Structural columns: 14 gauge.
c.Column mounts and lifting connections: 12 gauge.
2.Coat steel sheet on both sides with zinc by the continuous hot dip method and followed by heat treatment to convert the entire coating to a zinc-iron alloy.
3.Minimum Coating Weight:
a.Single Spot: 0.50 ounces per square foot.

B.Fasteners: 18-8 stainless steel.

C.Corrosion-resistant Bearing Pads: Black, 3/4-inch thick UHMWPE.

2.03Pre-engineered equipment enclosure

A.Description: Fabricated steel enclosure designed and shipped completely assembled or shipped in sections for simplified installation in the field.

B.Wall Penetrations: Provide penetrations for piping, electrical conduits, ventilation ducts and other components.

C.Access Doors:

1.Design enclosure with [one door] [two doors] for access to the enclosed equipment.
a.Design: [Single door with right-hand swing.] [Single door with left hand swing.] [Double door.]
b.Hinge: Continuous stainless steel piano hinge.

D.Ventilation:

1.Fans: Round Axial type fan.
2.Number: [_] intake fans and [_] exhaust fans.
3.Size and Capacity: 10 inch Axial, 665 cfm capacity.
4.Direct driven through total enclosed, 115V, 60 Hz, single phase motor.
5.UL Listed.
6.1 Thermostat will be provided with each set of fans.

E.Noise Control:

1.Option 1: Semi-rigid Board Type Acoustical Panels: Owens-Corning or equal 705 Board Insulation with the following characteristics:

a.Semi-rigid fiberglass board insulation composed of inorganic glass fibers.
b.Thickness: [__].
c.Unfaced.
d.Density: 6.0 pounds per cubic foot.
e.K Value: 0.23.
f.Mounting: Securely mount acoustical panels within a supporting aluminum frame which shall be installed on the interior of the enclosure over each panel. Design of the framework shall incorporate an air gap between the enclosure panel to enhance noise control and to minimize the number of contact points.

2.Option 2: Flexible, curtain-type Sound Barrier: Illbruck PROSPEC or equal mass loaded vinyl sheeting with the following characteristics:

a.Flexible curtain manufactured from ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA).
b.Minimum Thickness: 1/8-inch.
c.Unit Weight: 1 pound per square foot.
d.Tensile Strength: 180 pounds per square inch.
e.Tear Strength: 50 pounds per inch.

f.Mounting: Securely mount sound barrier material within a supporting aluminum frame which shall be installed on the interior of the enclosure over each panel. Design of the framework shall incorporate an air gap between the enclosure panel to enhance noise control and to minimize the number of contact points. Mechanically fasten mass loaded vinyl to the framework.

3.Low-density Foam Panels: Dow Quash FR2000 or equal Sound Management Foam panels with the following characteristics:

a.Material: Low density polyethylene.

b.Density: 2.0 pounds per cubic foot.

c.Washable with water.

2.04powder coating

A.All components of the enclosure shall receive a powder coating following fabrication and before assembly of the enclosure.

B.The powder coating applicator shall utilize a conveyorized pre-treatment and powder coat application line consisting of the following equipment:

1.5 stage iron phosphate in-line washer.

2.Convection heated drying oven.

3.Powder coating booth.

4.Convection heated curing oven.

C.Application of the powder coating shall follow a 5 step process to ensure excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance.

1.Stage 1: Heated mutli-metal acidic cleaner that is non-silicated, non-caustic.

2.Stage 2: Ambient temperature, fresh water rinse.

3.Stage 3: Heated multi-metal iron phosphatizer formulated for steel, iron, zinc, galvanized and aluminum material.

4.Stage 4: Ambient temperature, fresh water rinse, 2 times.

D.Powder Coating Finishing Material: Formulated for interior/exterior use and based on a polyester resin compound.

E.Powder Coating Coverage: Apply manually at thicknesses ranging from 2.5 mils to 3.5 mils.

2.05Mounting

A.Design enclosure for installation on corrosion-resistant pads to eliminate direct contact with concrete foundations that may have moisture.

B.Anchor Bolts: Size and material to be determined by Engineer.

C.Leveling Adjustment: Provide adjustable foundation mounts in each corner of enclosure to allow leveling of enclosure.

2.06Quality Control

A.Factory Pre-Assembly: Test fit at factory prior to shipping.

3Part 3 – Execution

3.01installation

A.Level: Level enclosure in two planes by adjusting foundation mounts. Utilize stainless steel shims as necessary to acquire level. All gaps between doors and reveals shall be even and access doors shall swing smoothly and close without making contact with door frame.

B.Install enclosure on corrosion-resistant pads. Utilize stainless steel leveling shims.

3.02Manufacturer’s Field Services

A.Manufacturer’s Field Services: Manufacturer’s representative shall inspect the completed installation to confirm proper installation.

B.Certification: Submit written certification by manufacturer that the equipment enclosure has been installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
