Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:

Welcome to Regents Global History and Geography II! This year, students will be exploring the many facets of Global History. It is my goal to help facilitate challenging but engaging activities that will help students understand the history of and development of various regions throughout the world. Students will be encouraged to become critical thinking historians and take full advantage of the curriculum which includes numerous group work activities as well as independent work in order to prepare for the New York State Global History and Geography Regents Exam on Tuesday June 14th 2016.

GLOBAL HISTORY II SYLLABUS

Below are the topics we will be studying this year in Global History II

  • Unit 1- Civilizations of the Americas
  • Unit 2-Age of Exploration and the Atlantic World
  • Unit 3-Absolute Monarchs in Europe
  • Unit 4-Enlightenment
  • Unit 5-French Revolution, and Napoleon
  • Unit 6-Nationalist Movements in the Western Hemisphere
  • Unit 7-Industrial Revolution/Age of Imperialism
  • Unit 8-World War I/Russian Revolution
  • Unit 9-World War II
  • Unit 10-Cold War to 2016

ACTIVITIES AND ASSESSMENTS

There will be many different types of assessments that will enrich the student’s journey throughout Global History Year I. All assessments will engage students in utilizing higher order thinking and will aid them in becoming critical and analytical thinkers. The various assessments are as follows:

  • Exams and Quizzes
  • Essay Writing
  • Document Based Questions
  • Research Projects
  • Daily Homework
  • Analyzing and critiquing of historical documentaries and films.

REGARDING TYPED ASSIGNMENTS

All typed assignments, unless otherwise specified, are to be typed in Times New Roman, size 12 font. All typed assignments are to be doubled spaced and in black ink. (In the event that assignment cannot be type it is 1 double sided sheet of hand written loose leaf equals 1 page typed.) All typed assignments should follow MLA format.

REGARDING HOME WORK

Homework assignments and projects may receive full credit only if they are submitted on the specified date. Assignments that are submitted late are subject to point deductions. If an assignment is not handed in by the end of the unit it will be given a zero.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to submit missed homework assignments within two days of your return to school (unless I instruct otherwise). If you are absent and miss an exam, quiz, or essay, it is your responsibility to set up a day to make up the assessment. If you are absent on the date that a project is due, you are expected to submit the project on your first day back to school. If homework assignments and projects are submitted past these specified time-frames, the assignments will be subject to point deductions.

  • 2 two pocket folders (1 for handouts and 1 for Regents Prep)
  • 1 Binder for Benchmarks
  • Blue and/or black ink pens (only)
  • #2 Pencils
  • Loose leaf Paper
  • Yellow Highlighter
