“A Mother Who Had Great Faith”

Passage: Matthew 15:21-28

1 Sam 1:15 “But Hannah replied, ‘No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine
nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the Lord.’”

Sometimes, it is the physical suffering or the emotional instability of a child that brings a mother of faith
to the Lord where she will plead for His d______i______.

Tyre and Sidon were a Proverb in the Old Testament; they were a byword for everything that was associated

with p______.

Matt 11:20-21“20 Then He began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles weredone, because they
did not repent. 21 ‘Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred
in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes”

Isa 49:15"Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these
may forget, but I will not forget you”

Deut 7:2 “…you (are to) defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them.(and) You shall make no covenant with
them and show no favor to them”

The only reason this woman was even alive was because the Israelites had not carried out that duty

to the extent that God had c______them to.

Luke 4:24-27“24….’Truly I say to you, no prophet is welcome in his hometown. 25 But I say to you in truth,
there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years

of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 "And
there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed,
but only Naaman the Syrian’”

Faith can emerge in some very unlikely places, and this should be encouraging to any of us who did not grow up with the benefit of a long s______p______.

Matt 9:36 “…he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without
a shepherd”(NIV)

Matt 4:24“The report of his miracles spread far beyond the borders of Galilee so that sick folk were soon coming
to be healed from as faraway as Syria. And whatever their illnessand pain, or ifthey were possessed
bydemons, or were insane, or paralyzed- he healed them all”(TLB)

Faith is precious in the sight of God, and Jesus wanted her great faith to be put on f______d______.

Ps 13:1-2 “1 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?
2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart all the day?”

Ps 22:2 “O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest”

This is what she didn’t do; she didn’t stand up in the Temple like that Pharisee in Luke 18 and tell God about how good a person she was, and she didn’t use self-pity, and she didn’t n______it and c______it.
