A Moment of Thanks for a Lifetime of Service

On the weekend of November 22–23, the second collection is for our Retired Sisters. This annual collection helps to meet the basic needs of some 2,000 Retired Sisters who collectively have served the parishes, schools, hospitals, and local ministries of our Archdiocese for more than 54,000 years. Next week, please consider making a generous gift to the Sisters who have served us so generously over the years. Today’s second collection helps to provide for the retirement and healthcare needs of the Sisters who have served our Archdiocese of Boston. Together, some 2,000 Retired Sisters have dedicated more than 54,000 years of faithful ministry to our schools, parishes, hospitals, and social service agencies. Please take this opportunity to say thank you to Sisters who have served our Church of Boston so generously throughout their lives. Any contribution you can give makes a big difference. Thank you for your prayerful and generous support.

Good morning/afternoon/evening:

This week’s second collection is for the Retired Sisters who have served our Archdiocese of Boston.

Some 2,000 Retired Sisters have dedicated more than 54,000 years of service to our Catholic schools, hospitals, and social service agencies. Your gift to this collection is a simple way of showing our gratitude for the incredible sacrifices these courageous women have made on behalf of our Church of Boston. Let this be a moment of thanks for a lifetime of service. May God bless you for your generosity.

General Intercessions

For our Retired Sisters who have served the Archdiocese of Boston. That they may enjoy dignified care in their senior years as they continue to devote their lives to prayer and service. Let us pray to the Lord.

For all the elderly in our nation, that they may be treated with respect and compassion, and that we as a society may more fully embrace their gifts of wisdom and grace. Let us pray to the Lord.

Ballot Question 3 and Question 4

Please consider including this summary in your weekly bulletin leading up until the election on November 4.

Recently, the Bishops of the Massachusetts have released statements in support of two questions that will appear on the ballot on November 4th.

Question 3, if passed, would repeal the existing law that established casino gambling in the Commonwealth. The Bishops have urged a “Yes” vote on Question 3, which would repeal the existing law and outlaw casino gambling in the Commonwealth. The Bishops have spoken about the deleterious effects of predatory casino gambling in their statement.

Question 4, if passed would mandate up to one week of earned paid sick time for most Massachusetts workers. It would allow workers in Massachusetts to earn one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked. The Bishops have urged a “Yes” vote on Question 4.
