‘Tween Sundays
A Midweek E-mail from First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown, New York
June 22, 2016
Sara Stormer, Director of A Children’s Place Day Care Center
Dear Friends,
Today was a big day for us here at A Children’s Place. Our 16 Universal Pre-Kindergartners graduated from our program and are now ready to start kindergarten in the fall. There were kind words spoken and tears shed for the unstoppable growing up of our little ones. We are proud of the progress they have made this year and we know they hold the pieces to a bright future.
We also say a heartfelt goodbye to our UPK teacher, Miss Roxy, as she leaves A Children’s Place for new adventures and more time with her family. We will miss her greatly, however, we are happy that she is getting to be home more with her husband and two young children.
Both Miss Roxy and her 16 students start a new chapter in their lives today. New chapters can bring with them fear of the unknown, anxious jitters of what may come, and even panic of things that could go wrong. My prayer for them is that our Heavenly Father will shower them with His grace and love, that they may know that He holds their path in His hands. As it says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” May these words ring true for each of the students, teachers, and for you.
In Christ,
Sara

We want to hold up the following to be remembered as you go through your days:
Barb Josephson recovering from a fall, Martha Love and her family on the death of Russell Love, Dick Gould and his brother, David, as he journeys with cancer, the Marshall family and Lee’s father as he continues to heal, for othermembers and staff of First Presbyterian/A Children’s Placewith known and unknown concerns, andcontinued prayers for the victims and their loved ones in Orlando, Florida. “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”(Ephesians 6:18) As a reminder to all members, the church only learns of illness, surgeries, hospital stays, etc. from you or a family member. WCA/other hospitals do not call to notify us when a member may be a patient. We urge you to let us know ahead of time (if having surgery) or to call us (or have a family member/friend call us) when something happens that you would like to be added to the prayer list or you would like a visit from the pastor.
DATES ON THE CALENDAR FOR YOUTH:
Wednesday, July 13: Tickets are available for Acrobats of Cirque-tacular at Chautauqua Institution. We would like to take the PYG to this event but we will need a firm head count to secure the seats. Please let Greg or Pastor Bob know if you would like to attend. We'll have more details on times and travel as the date draws closer.
Friday, July 29: Britt Nicole will be performing at Chautauqua Institute in the Amphitheater. She is a multi-talented singer/songwriter whose album Gold was nominated for a Grammy award in 2013 in the Best Contemporary Christian Music category. We'd love to get a group from First Presbyterian to go. This will be a family friendly show featuring popular music with a positive message that will appeal to adults and children alike. Tickets are available at Chautauqua for $20. Let us know if you're planning to attend and we can make an event of it. Depending on participation, ride sharing may be possible.
HELP THE HOUSE and the HUNGRY. During the summer months, the Mission Committee is once more asking your help in providing for the Birdie Turner house. Women who are trying to become independent while they are coping with drug or alcohol addiction, and who need a safe, structured environment to live in with new friends reside at the house. Because Birdie Turner has no perpetual source of funding, our congregation is a big help to them when we donate much needed household items. The “house” will be set up in or near the Fellowship Hall and you can bring your donations of paper products (toilet paper, paper towels), laundry and bath soap, cleaning products, personal care items, and bath, hand towels and wash cloths and leave them during church hours. The Mission Committee will also continue to help the food pantry next door at First Covenant. The next food pantry will be on July19. The Mission Committee is encouraging you to help with “a meal for the month.” June’s meal items are canned ham, baked beans, applesauce, canned corn and cornbread mix. July’s items are soup, macaroni and cheese, peaches, green beans, jello and cereal. You may also bring other nonperishable food items and personal items as well. The food can be left in the basket in the Fellowship Hall that is placed near “the house”.
