A Message from the Principal

I am thrilled to welcome students and families to the 2014-15 school year. Our focus this year at the Roosevelt is Building Learning Communities. As your child’s first teacher and home support, parents are very important members of our learning community. We will work together with you this year to make this a great year of learning.

Before and After School at the Roosevelt

Lower campus is excited to implement a before and after school program this year. Before School will be from 7:30-8:15 AM and will offer students a variety of activities. After school will take place from 2:30-5:00 PM and will provide age appropriate enrichment opportunities including: homework help, arts and crafts, technology and seasonal activities. Snack will be provided. The program will run 5 days a week except when school is not in session or early release days. For our fee schedule or information, please contact Lisa Antonelli at or call the school office at 617-635-9280 to leave a message for her.

Upper Campus will again offer Before School from 7:30-8:15 in the library with Ms. Sobers. The cost is $5.00 day and students may attend individual days or the full week. You may register int eh morning. We are happy to continue our partnership with Little Voices for Upper Campus after school needs.

Arrival and Dismissal

Arrival The school doors open for students at 8:15 AM and they are late after 8:30AM. Please either write a note or escort your child into the building when they are late.

Dismissal School will dismiss at 2:25PM and students will not be dismissed after 2PM. We hope you understand how disruptive it is for the classroom to have students being called to leave early. Teachers give out homework assignments at the end of the day and this greatly interrupts the routine. Please schedule all doctor appointments for after school hours.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Michael DiSandro

by Francisco Rodriguez

Mr. DiSandro grew up in the city of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia. He went to school at Penn State University. Mr. DiSandro moved to New England in 2001. Hi might be a new teacher in this school, but he’s been teaching middle school for a long time (20 years)! His philosophy is getting his students prepared to be successful at the next level, which is high school.

Bannet Steele

by Carrie Mays Grade 8

I don't even know where to begin about this amazing woman who has joined the F.D. Roosevelt School as our new vice principal. Mrs. Steele, who's expectation as a vice principal taking on a major role at a friendly environment like the F.D. Roosevelt, is to help every student be respectful and work together, while making learning fun, so that the Roosevelt school becomes a place where students are determined to receive an education. Not just that, but it's even said by Mrs.Steele that "...education is a great tool that helps to enhance students' lives so it give students an opportunity to be prosperous in life" which is her philosophy on education. That's not all, not only is Mrs.Steele's expectation brilliantly interesting, but also her childhood is extremely interesting, as a child who grew up in Ethiopia, Africa. At 10 years old, she came to America, so that she would receive a better education. Her Mom, Dad and her teacher are Mrs.Steele's inspiration. An interesting fact about Mrs.Steele is that her favorite subject is History. Well if you ask me, she's making history right now as a vice principal who will be remembered as the woman who helped the F.D.Roosevelt School become a better learning environment for this young generation.
