REMINDER
We have a Field Trip planned for this Saturday, October 14th. We are going to tour the log house that Bill Kerekes has rebuilt for his home. Bill was our speaker for our September meeting so now we will get to see his log house. We are hoping that you have put this on your calendar and plan to join us. We will carpool from the White Church meeting at 12:00. If you drive yourself the address is 47 Verner Avenue, Bulger, PA 15019 and it is suggested that you park on Verner Avenue. The Fort Vance Historical Society is presenting this “Saving History” tour of the log house. The time for the tour is 1 PM – 3PM. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. Since there are refreshments, it would be helpful if you let us know that you are coming. You can RSVP by calling Peggy at 724 947 9015 or Debbie at 724 947 5441.
OCTOBER PROGRAM
On Saturday, October 21, 2017 the program will be “OVER THERE! The US Doughboy in WWI and WWII – a Living History Presentation.” Join living historian Chris Sedlak and Jim DeAngelis of the Iron City Guards as they commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the US entrance into WWI with a physical comparison to the other great war 20 years later. See the uniform, weapons and soldier’s gear that was used at home and at the front. The Great War was a devastating event world-wide and is often over looked today; but it still effects world events.
In many ways, the end of WWI predicted the beginning of WWII. Join Jim DeAngelis as they discuss the uniform, weapons and equipment that were used just 20 years later by the “greatest generation.” This presentation is given by seasoned living historians in highly researched uniforms with some original equipment on display.
We look forward to your presence with us. You do not need to be a member to attend any of our interesting programs. Everyone is always welcome. There will be refreshments.
Christmas in the Village The dates are November 3, 4, and 5 and the time is daily 10:00 to 5:00. The theme this year is Candy Cane Christmas. Plan to attend and you will be handed a candy cane.
