“A Kingdom Mindset” Part 2

(The Mind of Christ Jesus)

We will study two views:

1.The Mind of Christ Jesus

2.Jesus’ mindset

Scripture Reading:

Philippians 2:1-7, NKJV

  • ‘Let this mind be’ phroneo (fron-eh'-o) in verse 5 refers to having exercised the mind; to entertain or have a sentiment or opinion; the implication here is to be (mentally) disposed (more or less earnestly in a certain direction); to be intensive, to interest oneself in (with concern or obedience):
  • The word ‘let’ means to give one’s consent to or to follow, approve, authorize, endorse, permit, or sanction.
  • To ‘let’the mind which was in Christ Jesus be in us is to relinquish what we think and feel to God without questioning the final outcome.

A.‘The Mind of Christ’ is one of submission and obedience and is the motivating factor to fulfilling the ‘will’ of God no matter the extent of the cost.

John 6:38-40, NKJV

  • The ‘will’ of God for Jesus was three-fold:

a.To proclaim the arrival of the Kingdom

b.To fulfill the ritual of the law

c.To be a perfect sacrificial lamb for sin

  • Our lives were predestined in the mind of God before the foundation of this world.
  • Our lives should exemplify the ‘Person of God’ and cause others to believe.

Romans 8:29, AMP, Romans 8:29, Message Bible

1.Jesus’ compliance to the Kingdom of God was driven by His accepting God’s ‘way of thinking’ above His own.

John 5:30, NKJV

  • A Kingdom Mindset is totally persuaded that God knows what is best in the interest of the Kingdom.
  • A Kingdom Mindset is in constant search for God’s ‘will.’
  • A Kingdom mindset never loses focus on their obedience.

Matthew 7:21, NIV

2.We develop our mind to mirror the mind of Jesus by thinking on what’s above.

Colossians 3:2-3, KJV

  • ‘Set our affection’ is translated phroneo (fron-eh'-o) as well (Philippians 2:5). Meaning, we can exercise our mind until it thinks like Jesus.
  • To ‘set’ our mind on things above, we must direct our focus heavenly.

B.Jesus’ mindset developed throughout the years of His growth. This was important if He was to have no false presumption of His assignment from God.

Luke 2:49, AMP

  • A ‘mindset’ is the characteristic thought processes of an individual. It is what makes that individual tick.
  • The mind of Jesus focused on the following:

a.First, His Father God’s ‘will.’

b.Secondly, His obedience to the Father.

c.Finally, His training of others to follow His example.

1.‘A Kingdom Mindset’ is liberated from the stagnation of lifeless religion because their mind is set on righteousness above just being right.

Matthew 5:20, NIV, Matthew 5:23-24, NIV

2.‘A Kingdom Mindset’ approaches the degree of difficulties in life with a fight to overcome its pressure. Jesus instructed us to enjoy life to the fullness; he came to give us that life.

Matthew 11:12, AMP, John 10:10, AMP

3.Our mindsets were established before we became believers. We were under demonic influences pressured by our sinful nature.

Ephesians 2:2-3, AMP

C.Our mindset before Jesus became our Lord was strictly a life of ‘assumptions,’ we did what we thought was right in our own eyes.

  • Assumptions—something assumed—this creates our value system, the influence upon our judgments, concerns, or decision making…
  • These assumptions can affect the following in our belief system:
  1. How we apply the nature of God to our lives…
  2. How we understand the failure of our human nature…
  3. How we demand the authority over the offenders of the faith…
  4. How we respect sin’s power to produce death…
  5. How we accept the forgiveness of God…
  6. The effects on our belief system can be assumptions we accrue from the following ways:
  1. What we’ve heard
  2. What we’ve seen
  3. What we’ve experienced

Mark 4:24, KJV, Luke 8:18, KJV

Conclusion:

‘The Mind of Christ Jesus’ was founded upon the Word of God with an attitude of obedience. He sought the ‘will’ of God with all diligence. His aim was to please God. We are to have the same mind as Christ if we are to please God. ‘A Kingdom Mindset’ willfully submits to the ‘will’ of God.
