Synopsis

When Rasmus meets Marie, he is certain that she is the love of his

life. However, it doesn’t take long before it turns out she is a

possessive and manipulative being, that cunningly dissects Rasmus

to pieces. This is the story of the woman’s destructive insistence

on dominance in a relationship from the man’s point of view.

Director's statement – by "name"

A HORRIBLE WOMAN is a film about the woman’s destructive dominance in a relationship seen from her boyfriend’s point of view. It is a tragedy, but not without humor. It is an account of all the upsetting things a woman can do to a man in a relationship, partly inspired by ex-girlfriends and partly by the stories from a lot of my male peers.

This film is about everyday-like terrorism. I do not hate women in any way, on the contrary - I have spent 24 years of my life trying to figure out how to deal with them.

I want this picture to be awkward and uncomfortable to watch – and the audience to join me with the feeling of slight anger and incapability, that I have experienced in a lot of present day romantic relationships. I hope that the interactions pictured in A HORRIBLE WOMAN will be recognizable and most of all humorous for both genders – and I believe that everybody can mirror their own experiences in a lot of the situations portrayed in the film.

"CHRISTIAN TAFDRUP" - Director's bio

Christian Tafdrup (born 1978) is a renowned Danish actor who has appeared in numerous films and television series. He has written and directed three short films, all of which have gained international attention, most recently the award winning “Awakening” / “En forelskelse” (2008) about a 16 year old boy who falls in love with his girlfriend's father.

“Parents” / “Foraeldre” (2016) is Christian Tafdrup’s first feature film and it has won numerus awards and was critical acclaimed.

“Marte Mleczek” – Producer

Marta Mleczek has since 2014 worked within Nordic Film Production first as an Assistant Producer and later as a Junior Producer. Besides assisting on multiple larger Danish productions, she has produced several short films such as MAYBE THIS CHRISTMAS (2015), director Theis Ferrall and BREAKER OF HORSES (2015), director Nanna Rebekka & Pernille Lystlund Matzen.A HORRIBLE WOMAN is her first feature film as producer.

Niels Buchholzer is a Copenhagen based DoP shooting everything from drama to commercials. He loves the diversity of working in different genres and simply just love to work.

Born in 1978 and graduated from the National Film School of Denmark in 2009 Niels Buchholzer is a relatively young DOP shed in the light of his volume of work. Studied first to become a still photographer in Copenhagen and London in the field of documentary and then moved into cinema.
