PERSONALITY THROWDOWN

A Group Mind Map Project

A mind map** is a diagram used to visually outline information. A mind map is often created around a single word or text, placed in the center (PERSONALITY), to which associated ideas (PERSPECTIVES) are connected, then names, words and other concepts are added. Major categories radiate from the center, and lesser categories are sub-branches of larger branches. Categories can represent words, ideas, symbols, pictures or other items related to a central key word or idea.

**Other terms for this diagramming style are: "spider diagrams," and "mind webs.”

FYI - The term "mind map" was first popularized by British popular psychology author and television personality Tony Buzanwhen BBC TV ran a series hosted by Buzan called Use Your Head. In this show, and companion book series, Buzan enthusiastically promoted his conception of radial tree, diagramming key words in a colorful, radiant, tree-like structure.

Buzan suggests the following guidelines for creating mind maps:

  1. Start in the center with an image of the topic (PERSONALITY), using at least 3 colors.
  2. Use images, symbols, and codes throughout your mind map.
  3. Select key words and print using upper or lower case letters.
  4. Each word/image is best alone and sitting on its own line.
  5. The lines should be connected, starting from the central image. The central lines are thicker and thinner as they radiate out from the center, but I’m more interested in you developing your own personal style of mind mapping.
  6. Use multiple colors (3+) throughout the mind map, for visual stimulation and also to encode or group. Your “green” text does the same for each unit.
  7. Show associations in your mind map.
  8. Keep the mind map clear by using radial hierarchy or numerical order.Embrace your branches. 

As you make your mind map, focusing on learning/re-learning the material as you work! If you are not clear about the term/concept, research in text and teach your group. Be creative, comprehensive and colorful! Include all names on finished Mind Map!
