2/10/16

Dear All

A few extra sporting matters to note:

  • Netball League – last call for entries to the netball league. Entry deadline is 5/10/16 and formatting/confirmation to be done shortly after to enable fixtures to be issued for schools to organise around – information and booking link here
  • Second-hand five-a-side football goals – there are some old five-a-side football goal sets going free of charge (but we’ll need to charge £20 per set for transportation) after new ones have been purchased for Horsham Park. They have not got nets and their locking mechanisms are no longer in full working order so making them awkward if regular movement required, however they’re fine if you’re able to keep them fixed in position on your field they’ll be fine. Let me know if you’re interested in taking a set. First-come-first-served.
  • Indoor cricket competition – Sussex County Cricket Club’s expression of interest form is now available on theHDSD websiteto establish demand for their indoor competition programme in the spring term for both Angmering and Central school sports partnership areas
  • Haunted High Places - the High Places facility at Pavilions in the Park, Horsham is running a group special week over Halloween and they’ve asked me to tell you about it – see attached
  • Disc Golf Leader Training – re-arranged due to tutor illness to Thursday 20th October, 9am-12noon in Horsham Park. £20 per person. Any teaching staff interested contact me ASAP
  • Trampolining Competition – there’s been a date change on this event from the organisers at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre. The Year 5+6 event has been moved back a week to Friday 25th November
  • Event Reports – some excellent football played at the football league so far and the Alternative Sports Day at BBHLC was well received – see results and reports listing
  • Social Media – HDSD Twitter feed is at ‘HorshamSportsDev’ and Like Us on Facebook too. We’re starting to get a bit better at this!

Dear All

An update to the sport autumn bulletin I sent a couple of weeks ago…

1)High Places Challenge – responding to comments about the cost Places for People have amended the team size to be 12 children (instead of 8) for the cost of £120. Entry deadline is 9/10/16 so don’t delay if you’re interested in children benefitting from this brilliant opportunity

2)People are still mentioning the problem of website access – just to reiterate that the solution is to get your school IT technician to unblock the IP address as it’s a school-side issue. A number of schools have resolved it in this way. I’ve attached a Word copy of our school events pages as at 26/9/16 as an aid whilst some schools still resolve this matter.

3)The cross country event has been moved back to the spring term because Christ’s Hospital was requiring to charge £400 if it ran in the autumn term, a price not worth paying just to fit in with the School Games – Greenway School as the organising body is still awaiting confirmation of a new date, probably in early March, and will circulate as soon as it is

4)The next Horsham PE Coordinators meeting is taking place at Kingslea School on Thursday 20th October, 1.15-3pm – focus sport: ultimate frisbee. Let Jo know at if you want to attend

5)The trampolining competition booking link has now been enabled. Entry deadline 24/10/16

6)The Mid Sussex School Sports Partnership is running a primary Hi5 Netball CPD course next Thursday at Northlands Wood in Haywards Heath, from 1.30-3.30pm – application form attached.

Thanks

Ian

Dear Primary PE Contact

Another year of primary school sport is underway and just a few reminders/pointers about some of the services Horsham District Sports Development is coordinating in partnership with various community providers

Competitions and festivals are listed on three term-based pages – HYPERLINKS:autumn, spring and summer . Remember that a good number are available to all primary schools in the district, not just Horsham area schools. There’s a number of new events included in this year’s programme and to balance out the calendar some events have been brought forward into the autumn term.

Early booking events in the autumn term to be aware of are the Alternative Sports Day on 27th Sept (deadline extended to 19/9/16) and the Aquatics Festival on 12th Oct (deadline 27/9/16). Both are booking well so recommend booking quickly for remaining spaces if you’re interested. Although it’s in the spring term any additional schools wanting to sign up to the Dance Festival need to do so by 30th September

The football offer has changed from what Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre has provided in recent years. It’s now based in Horsham Park on grass pitches with a league before October half term and one-off year group cup nights after spring half term. At Horsham schools sport calendar meeting some schools suggested 16th Sept start for year 5+6 football league and 23rd Sept for year 3+4 was too soon to mobilise for so decision reached to run 16th Sept and 23rd Sept as practice tournaments for schools already booked and for the league proper to run for 2 weeks each per age group subsequent to those tournaments to allow more schools time to mobilise. The year 5+6 tournament on 16th Sept will have 10 teams playing and the year 3+4 on the 23rd will have 8 teams involved. There is still time to sign up for the leagues; new booking deadline is 23/9/16

Note that following the Horsham calendar meeting some amendments have been made to the trampolining, cross-country and sports hall athletics competitions and a girls-hockey event has been provisionally been added. A few of the events are still to be confirmed up – as soon as they are the website will be amended accordingly.

Website access problem– some schools have had problems in accessing the website recently. This appears to be a filter issue on the schools’ side and that teachers should request the IP address is unblocked by their IT specialists. If any schools continuing to have problems linked to making competition bookings contact and I’ll email out competitions information and take bookings by email

Staff training opportunities – disc golf on Thurs 15th Sept 9-12noon in Horsham Park (£20pp).Ultimate frisbee training day in London (Skinners Academy) on Sunday 9th October – group of HDSD coaches set to attend so transport potentially available for extras (£85pp). Contact about either

Inter-primary school staff competition – ultimate frisbee with teams of 4 on Tues 20th Sept (6.00-7.30pm) in Horsham Park (£10 per team pay on day) now confirmed. Key ultimate frisbee rules are shown on this 4 minute video . It’s an activity that great fun and energetic.

Sports coaching needs – please feel free to contact +/or with any curricular or extra-curricular coaching needs that you may have. We’ll endeavour to address through our own coach ranks or by contacting other providing partners that we have contacts with.

Here’s looking forward to another great year of primary school sport in the Horsham District
