RIDOT TMC is been asked by our law enforcement officials on video recording on our highways. Does any one have a policy on video recording on highways and who can have access to them? Please let me know how your State handles such issue.

Thanks

Mike

NJDOT records for 7 days and then it is overwritten. We allow anyone to get copies for a fee, unless law enforcement is actively investigating. Below is a link to request a copy.

Mike,

Illinois does not have a specific policy; however, for the most part we do not record any of our cameras. We do have a few where images are recorded for up to 8 hours and then the images are recorded over.

Good Morning Mike,

The NJ Turnpike Authority does not record - like our brothers in TN we share our video with the local media utilizing Traffic Land.

Hello

Michigan is similar we share our video with local media and utilize Traffic Land. We do have one recorder in the Detroit area used for training purposes. If some one wants the video they have to go through FOIA.

For Michigan also, law enforcement has access to view our traffic video. If they choose to record anything, then they are responsible for the video via their own policies at that point.

Mike, As a standard practice DelDOT does not record video, we do have the capabilities to record for incident review or analysis of a particular concern; once the video has been analyzed it is deleted and only snapshots are exported for data needs. We may retain video for training use as well. All of our permanent mounted cameras are available to the public, we have 11 portable cameras that are not accessible by the public but can be if needed.

MassDOT has over 850 cameras statewide and does record a limited number of cameras mostly within the tunnels. We archive video up to 24 days. We share video using 80 public facing cameras to 511. We also provide video to our State Police Troop assign to Tunnels as well as to other agencies through the Massachusetts Interagency Video Information System (MIVIS). MIVIS will be replaced in the next few weeks with a new and more robust web based video sharing system. This system will allow us to receive video from other agencies as well as us sharing our video.

Finally, MassDOT does provide to anyone recorded video upon request through the Freedom of Information Act.

Monroe County DOT keeps digital recordings of each camera's video for 24 hours for engineering analysis purposes (analyzing traffic trends and checking on reported traffic signal problems). The video is automatically overwritten after 24 hours. All video is also shared live over TrafficLand.com.

Mike, NCDOT's policy on video recording is attached. It states:

The recording of video images generated by closed-circuit television cameras shall not be permitted except for incident management site activities for debriefing purposes, monitoring traffic flow on predetermined detour routes to further evaluate signal timing plans, and determining when detour route capacity has been exceeded.

NCDOT shares video with the media, local municipalities, State Emergency Management, and SHP through direct fiber connects. Several local 911 centers and county EM centers have access to video through Trafficland accounts.

CDOT does have the capability to record but only when requested to do so for special projects or incidents.

The media has a live feed and we also we have an agreement to share video with Traffic land.

Thanks,

Maryland has a written policy regarding recording video from the traffic cameras that addresses what is recorded and how to request the recording.

We record video at our SOC from specific monitors. They typically are running video tours scanning through regional cameras. The Operations staff can also assign a specific camera to one of these monitors to be recorded. If it is not requested to be copied to a DVD to be saved, the video is typically overwritten on the DVR in about 3-4 days. In most cases we do not have videos of accidents as they occur unless they happened to be on a monitor at the time. We get a number of requests from lawyers of accident video requesting the historical video from specific locations.
