Public Relations skills job descriptions

  1. Corporate sponsor relations – job includes connecting with businesses (via phone calls, e-mails, and/or letters) and building relationships. It will include following up, providing information, and finding ways to engage individuals and corporations in financial sponsorship as well as volunteering that matches the individual’s or corporation’s needs and interests. Corporate sponsor relations will take whatever amount of time the person can invest each month. It will take a few hours/month per potential corporate sponsor.
  1. Donor relations - job includes connecting with businesses and individuals (via phone calls, e-mails, and/or letters) that have already donated and building relationships. It will include following up, providing information, and finding ways to engage individuals and corporations further in the life and future of Family Promise. Donor relations will take approximately 10 hours/month.
  1. Event planner – job includes working on a team to run a fund development event or events throughout the year. Current yearly events include: Strike Out Homelessness (bowl-a-thon), Senators’ Game, and Art from the Heart (art auction). Teams can also create new ideas to carry out. Event planning includes attending planning meetings, working with the media, recruiting attendees or selling tickets, helping with registration, and other tasks specific to each event. Members can assist with one major event in the year or all of the events according to their time and interest.
  1. Graphic designer - job includes assisting with FPHCR’s branding generally and for specific events. Job may include creating flyers for events and a “brand package” for the event – specific to materials needed to advertise the event and to easily be implemented on the website, Facebook page, and other social media platforms. Job will take a few hours prior to each event.
  1. Newsletter writer/interviewer -job includes interviewing families, volunteers, and staff about their experiences with Family Promise and writing up articles for the newsletter. This also includes writing about events (both previous & upcoming). This person may also help with distribution, if interested. Newsletters are distributed quarterly. This position is cyclical and takes more time during the months the newsletters are published and little to no time other months of the year.
  1. Press Release writer – job includes writing press releases for fund raising events and other FPHCR happenings/newsworthy events. The press release writer ideally knows various media personalities or newspaper writers in order to get stories published. Job will take approximately 30 minutes to write and then time to contact media and follow-up.
  1. Speaker’s Bureau member – job includes calling local groups (congregations, interfaith groups, Bible studies, women’s groups, rotaries, Lion’s clubs, Kiwanis, etc.) to set up presentations. Individual will then speak to the group providing hand-outs, relevant information about the program, and presenting an engaging talk about the program. Individual will also follow-up with the group afterward in order to continue engagement. The main goal of the speaker’s bureau is to raise money for the program. The secondary goals are getting the name of the organization known in the community and recruiting volunteers. Time for this job will depend on the person’s availability. Presentations can be set up as often as possible.
  1. Thank you letter writer - job includes writing monthly thank you letters to people and businesses who have donated within the past month. Letter format has already been created but needs to be personalized/updated monthly. Letters then need to be sealed, stamped, addressed, and mailed. Materials will be provided by Family Promise. Letters will take approximately 5 hours/month to complete. Letters can be written at home or at the Day Center.
  1. Videographer - job includes recording and editing monthly video newsletter. Videographer could also attend FPHCR events to take record and publicize events. Videos are only 1-2 minutes and will take a few hours/month to record and edit.
